I find the 550uz well above average, haveing been useing the c5060 for wide angle landscapes, the new 28-504mm lens better than expected Phil's review may not be A1 on a photo chart, but in the field is excellant from wide to full zoom, colour fine , a tad soft image but set up i notch sharpen corrects this-or post edit a click or two producess really good shots, try a shot of moon in late afternoon light & crop! Easy & quick to use, electronic viewfinder very clear for those who use ...

SP-550 vs DMC-FZ8 I am totally confused after reading the various private reviews/opinions on the SP-550, ratings seam to vary from 2 to an 8 out of ten. Something is fishy when you get such wide variances in the reviews/opinions. Are the manufactures posting misleading comments in billboards like this one, by claiming superior performance for their cameras and posting bad comments on the competitor’s product???? I read this review SP-550 vs. FZ8 - Both cameras have some exceptional ...

"I dropped my Olympus camera from the top of the Empire State Building into a vat of raw sewage and now it doesn't work. I say - "bad build quality!"

Good photos can be taken with this camera but only on 50-100 iso any higher it is so noisey. Construction is bad splashed with water and not worked since now back to the shop hoping to get it fixed.Just like my sp510 droped it once from 1.5 feet on to soil and the lens actually fell out. Cant fault the features as it has everything you need. Image quality-loads of noise but iso 50-100 good.Bad lens flare in bright conditions. Value for money-I'll let you know if it is repaired. Problems: Poor ...

It amazes me that reviews sent so far do differ so much. It does not do justice to an excellent camera. I have had the SP-550UZ for 2 weeks and I cannot speak for this camera too highly. I will in the next week or so write a mini review. It could be possible that production control of this model is not what it should be. The camera is made in Indonesia. Since I was born in Indonesia I know that it is possible. No camera is perfect but this one, on the whole, is hard to beat. Problems: It ...

Excellent camera! Have been waiting a long time to buy it. I've traced it on the web since the pre-production model. Have completed the largest photo samples collection I suppose. I have it for a couple of days now, made hundreds of photos under different conditions and I come to one conclusion: excellent. Vivid, sharp colors, 504mm pics under good lighting conditions very neat. You can observe some purple fringing or chromatic abberations at long zoom but it depends on the light source and ...

Used it for a few days and I was not happy at all with image quality. Lots of noise and unsharp images at the telephoto end. I returned it for a refund. Problems: High noise

Had the camera for one week and used it everyday out in the fields. First impression is a well-constructed camera that feels good in the hand, is easy to hold and has all controls in the correct place, however, first impressions when used in the field are not as good as I expected. I found the big viewing screen is not as sharp as the big screen on my Ixus 55 and I found it easier to use the EVF, the zoom motor is slow and noisy and there is noise above ISO 50 that increases as the ISO is ...

i have just received my Olympus SP-550 UZ, apparently the camera is as good as shown in the papers, but after some shots you will realize that the image quality is not as good as they say. The colors used to appear washed, specially the red tones. The lens are good, but the pictures taken at 504 mm are not too sharp. At ISO 50 the noise is under control but is higher than the noise showed by my old Sony MAVICA CD500 at ISO 100. In conclusion, this camera is nicer in papers that in reallity Pr ...

SP-550UZ(E) arrived today from Cameras2u. What a superb service. Excellent camera so far, superb ergonomics and nice and weighty and easy menu system coupled with a fantastic lens and image stability. Pictures with and without flash in dimmed room almost similar. Good value for money. Will check out comparability with my Nikon D80 and VR lenses so lets see later. Problems: None so far apart from the fact that I hate AA batteries
