There's really nothing bad about the functionality of the Nikon V1. Its weakest point is low-light performance (which seems on par with my first DSLR — the Nikon D50). It works great with Nikon AF-S lenses using the FT-1 adapter, and the 1 system zooms are tiny and quite competent. All the Nikon 1's problems come from its bizarrely awful user interface. Why they didn't just put a PASM dial and a command dial on the sucker I don't know. Instead we get a shooting mode dial which seems to flip ...

SHORT VERSION The Nikon V1 is a small, light, well-built camera that takes very good photos and video clips, and is a lot of fun to use. It has a few operational and handling quirks that can sometimes be quite annoying, but overall it is easy to use. It is a very good camera for 95% of my needs, and I highly recommend it. LONG VERSION I purchased this camera in late 2012 because I wanted to take a small, light, and not-too-expensive camera with me on a family vacation that could take both ...

Introduction I've a Nikon D600, which I'm very, very happy with. It is an excellent performer offering marvellous IQ and low light capabilities, but at the cost of weight and size. It is also a bit complicated to use for non-photographers, such as my wife. Criteria I was therefore looking to get a secondary camera that could match the following criteria: * Critical: Considerably better IQ than a mobile phone (Talking IQ, not MPx) * Critical: Fast AF to capture the decisive moments * ...

Hi all, I've been using Nikon 1 V1 with 10-30 for a month now. I must say I like it very, very much. For me it is a wonderfull camera for holidays. I took it with me on a trip to Germany. I found the V1 very usefull in normal, sunny as well overcast conditions. I didn't miss the flash because I also had a Ricoh GR for indoor/high ISO work. I plan to purchase 18.5 mm lens, sell the GR and the V1 will become my only camera. So, here are my quick observations: solid build quality accurate ...

I have been using my Nikon 1 for two weeks now, and here are my comments how I hold the Nikon 1 V1 camera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDFff1l22ZI I had not any previous experience with DSLRs and I found Nikon 1's design very reasonable and ergonomic. When I choose the Nikon 1 system I expected that the engineers at Nikon are experienced enough to make a good camera, and I was right. I read comments about "errors and mistakes" Nikon made with the V1, but I found not any errors so far, ...

It was seeing others using this little wonder that made me buy one for my wife, but she opted for the OM-D E-M5 instead, so I inherited it! Quickly it grew on me, and pretty soon it became my favorite camera (I have a few...). PROS: ===== * very rugged design, feels like a Leica! * excellent viewfinder, one of the best EVFs on the market. * Utterly silent shutter, perfect for candid photography, shooting easily scared animals, and similar subject. * As you can choose between mechanical and ...

Summary: This is  fantastic little camera, and there is  lot to like about the design.  The AF is exceptionally good.  The included lenses are very good, and the exposure is reliable.   It doesn't do a lot wrong, and even the less than class leading resolution is not too much of a issue, unless you are a landscape shooter, or like to crop a lot. I owned the V1, 30-110, and 10-30 kit for around 12 months.  It served me well for around 6 months, until it died a horrible death, requiring a ...
