I bought a copy of this lens for a trip as I wanted to carry a lighter load. The filter size was the same as most of my older prime lenses which also influenced my decision. It's actually a pretty good lens. In bright conditions it takes an excellent shot. At f8 on a D7100 theres not much differentiate it with other lenses that cost three or four times the price. Excellent value. Light weight. Sharp detailed snaps with good saturation. Well worth a closer look.

Good lens for a beginner DSLR user who wants to learn the ropes. Focussing distance being low...is an advantage. The colors and contrast are pretty good. Very usable for casual shooting even if you outgrow this lens. Aperture is obviously not very wide at 55mm..being a low cost lens. It is meant for shooting in normal to good light. overall it is a very good lens for beginners, Go to following link to see some great photos captured by this awesome lens. fotogenicindia.blogspot.com/2013/08/vis ...

This is the Lens that the camera came with. Excellent for every day shots and to practice with the features of the DSLR. Problems: None at all.

For this quality, this lens is under-priced. One of the best DX lenses on a very affordable range. Auto focus is solid, and there is no need for manual because you shouldn't be shooting anything too out of the ordinary. For a plastic build, it is very sturdy and feels solid. The zoom is smooth and slightly stiff, and to many, just right. Manual focus is a problem because of the rotating element, but isn't horrible. This lens takes some very good, frame-filling macro, and gives you good ...

The Nikon kit lens has come quite a distance with the third release make-over of the original digital DX kit lens. The build is improved, the plastic feels rougher and well put together, the VR works very well for every-day-shooting hand shake; not as well as the VR used in the 18-200 but plenty for the intended purpose. It feels lighter then previous versions or, simply gives that feeling in real world use. Definitely a bit chunkier because of the added VR but with a nicer more solid feel ...
