Problematic in low light conditions only, on the other hand shooting with timer and/or tripod is better than shooting with VR in those situations. It focused well and the bokeh was pleasing (when it could be coaxed out of the narrow aperture). This was the last Nikon kit lens without image stabilisation, and I did wish that it had that feature.
