I am shooting Canon 5D and bought this camera for my girlfriend as a Christmas gift because of the "great reviews" I read about it. We tested it for the first time at a New Years Party in a very well lit house. All the pictures, no matter what mode we took them in, came out as if someone ran a "painting" effect on them in Photoshop. i have bought this camera a couple days ago but it's quality is not good. when you zoom the pictures quality is not really good. i think i waste my money over this low quality camera. Problems: the problem is that the pictures quality isn't good at all. i don't really suggest this camera....

Nice, fun camera, great zoom but weighs a ton. Not the greatest low natural light or flash.

Is capable but some quirks with IQ and poor IS at tele keeping it down from being great. Problems: None so far, working great.

My background is I like easy to use cameras but need a decent zoom for wildlife photos etc on long haul holidays. My existing camera was a fuji S1000 which has done reasonably well, but I was interested in the HS20 for 3 main reasons: 1. The increase in zoom from 12x to 30x 2. First of all I have to say that I'm not a photographer, not even an amateur one. I'm just a guy (an electric engineer) who lives abroad and who likes to make photos about his Friends doing parties, playing billiard, hiking, etc... Mostly there are people on my pictures. First off I wanna say if your looking for the perfect camera.....GOOD LUCK! No Camera is perfect....all have their strong and weak points $200 to $2000+. Too many people expect the quality of a High End DSLR out of a $300 Prosumer Camera. It's probably never gonna happen so we hafta be realistic! This camera had been rated from 3.5 to 5.0 stars in most reviews. It all comes to the way it was advertised and people's naive expectations. It looks, feels and weights like a DSLR but it's not, so if you expect the picture quality of a 12MP 23.4x15.6mm sensor from a 16MP 6.4x4.8mm EXR sensor look elsewhere, sensor size really matters. I've had my HS20 for about 3 months now and I have to say 'at first' I was not over impressed with it,but after trying all the various settings, and ready to accept it as just average ,I discovered manual mode,and it was one of those 'eureka moments'.
