The GXR's labyrinthine menu system is the key to its incredible level of customization, and though daunting at first glance (and most subsequent visits, to be honest) it does contain some powerful tools. The truth is that most of what's here is firmly in the 'set and forget' category, as in use (as a camera) you don't need the menus at all. The nine pages could really do with some organization, but spending a few hours here when you first get the camera will reap rewards when you come to use it.

Auto-Hi ISO
If the shutter-release is pressed all the way down in one motion, the camera will take a picture at the focus distance selected for Snap Focus Distance. Choose when quick shutter response is required. Optionally also overrides current ISO setting.
Pre-AF
Off
On
If On is selected when Multi AF or Spot AF is selected for Focus, the camera will continue to focus even when the shutter-release button is not pressed halfway (the focus range is narrower than for normal focus). This may decrease the time needed to focus, potentially improving shutter response.

When exposure compensation is assigned to the + and – buttons or AE lock is assigned to the Fn1 and Fn2 button, pressing the assigned button in manual exposure mode sets shutter speed and/or aperture to values close to those needed for optimal exposure. This allows you choose the mode used for this.
