Fujifilm unveils Finepix XP200 rugged compact camera with Wi-Fi

Fujifilm has launched the XP200 rugged compact camera with built-in Wi-Fi. It is waterproof to a depth of 15m, shockproof for drops of up to 2m, freezeproof to -10°C and dust/sand proof. It is based around a 16MP CMOS sensor and 28-140mm equivalent lens. The camera's Wi-Fi capability allows users to share photos via the 'Fujifilm Camera Application' app for iOS and Android devices. The XP200 will be available in black, yellow, blue and red from May 2013 at a suggested retail price of $299.95 / £229.99.

Canon unveils SX270 HS 20x superzoom and SX280 HS with GPS and WiFi

Canon has launched two SX series compact superzooms, the PowerShot SX280 HS and SX270 HS. The difference between the two is that the SX280 HS includes Wi-Fi connectivity and GPS, whereas the SX270 HS, which is not being announced by Canon USA, does not. Beyond that, both are 20x compact superzooms with 25-500mm equivalent image-stabilized lenses and 3 inch 460k dot LCD screens. Both feature 12MP back-lit CMOS sensors and the company's latest Digic 6 processor.

Phase One unveils IQ280, IQ260 and IQ260 Achromatic digital backs

Phase One has unveiled the Wi-Fi enabled IQ260, IQ260 Achromatic and IQ280 medium format digital camera backs. The 60MP IQ260 and IQ260 Achromatic feature maximum shutter speeds of 1/10,000th of a second. The IQ260 Achromatic is a black-and-white version, with no color and IR filter. The cameras' wireless capabilities allow users to remotely capture and view images from iOS devices. All three backs feature 3.2" multi-touch rear screens with 1.15m dot resolution, and built-in accelerometers. They will be available from June 2013 at suggested retail prices starting from €29,990 /$39,990.

Sony US introduces Cyber-shot WX300, HX300 and TX30 compact cameras

Sony has announced the Cyber-shot DSC-WX300, DSC-HX300 and DSC-TX30 compact cameras in the US market. The HX300 is a 20MP 50x superzoom with a 24-1200mm equiv. lens. Meanwhile the WX300 is an 18MP Wi-Fi compact superzoom with a 25-500mm equiv. lens. The tough, waterproof, card-style TX30 offers a 26-130mm equiv zoom. The WX300 will cost around $330, while the HX300 and TX30 will have retail prices of $500 and $350 respectively.

Sony launches Cyber-shot WX300, HX300 and TX30 compact cameras

Sony has announced the Cyber-shot DSC-WX300, DSC-HX300 and DSC-TX30 compact cameras. The HX300 is a 50x superzoom with a 24-1200mm equivalent lens in front of a 20MP CMOS sensor. Meanwhile the WX300 is a Wi-Fi compact superzoom that Sony says is the slimmest 20x camera. It has an 18MP CMOS chip behind its 25-500mm equiv. lens. Finally, the tough, waterproof card-style TX30 shares the same sensor and offers a 26-130mm equiv zoom. The three models are not currently being announced in the USA.

Samsung announces Wi-Fi-only version of Galaxy Camera

Samsung has announced a Wi-Fi-only version of its Galaxy Camera. It shares the same feature-set as the 3G and 4G versions announced last August, including a 21x, 23-481mmm equivalent zoom lens on the front with a 4.8" touchscreen on the back. It runs Android 4.1 (known as Jelly Bean), the latest version of the operating system. There is currently no information on price or availability.

Samsung ships WB250F and DV150F Wi-Fi enabled Smart cameras

Samsung has started shipping its Wi-Fi enabled DV150F dual-LCD and WB250F compact cameras at retail prices of $149.99 and $249.99 respectively. Announced at the CES 2013 tradeshow, the WB250F is an 18x, 24-432mm equiv compact superzoom with a 3.0" touch screen and the company's latest Wi-Fi implementation - dubbed 'Smart 2.0.' The DV150F is 16MP CCD with a 25-125mm equiv zoom and includes a 2.7" LCD and a 1.5" front LCD. UK and European pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed.

CamRanger offers DSLR control from your iPad

Developer Dave Pawlowski and his wife Melissa have announced the CamRanger that lets users wirelessly control Canon and Nikon DSLRs to Apple's iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. The standalone device connects the cameras with a USB cable and creates an ad-hoc Wi-Fi network for the Apple devices. It allows live live view control and playback of images and videos. Fujifilm announces Wi-Fi-enabled F900EXR with EXR-CMOS II

Fujifilm has announced the FinePix F900EXR, a 20X zoom, raw-capable compact superzoom with built-in Wi-Fi, offering what Fujifilm claims is the 'world's fastest AF'. The F900 uses a 16MP EXR-CMOS II sensor with Phase Detection AF technology and sensor-shift image stabiisation. A near-identical twin of the F800EXR in other respects, it offers the same 25-500mm equivalent lens, captures 1080p movies, P,A,S,M shooting modes and the ability to wirelessly transfer files via the free 'Fujifilm Camera Application' app for Android and iOS devices. Price and availability details have not been given.

Nikon launches Coolpix S5200 and L28 budget compacts

CP+ 2013: Nikon has announced the CoolPix S5200 and L28 - two affordable compact cameras. The S5200 is a 6x compact with a 26-156mm equivalent stabilized zoom lens and a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor. It features a 3" LCD screen and built-in Wi-Fi capability and will retail for around $180. The L28 offers a slightly more modest 26-130mm 5x zoom lens in front of a 20MP CCD sensor. It uses AA batteries and will sell for around $120.

Canon reveals PowerShot Elph 330 HS, Elph 115 IS and A2500

CP+ 2013: Canon has announced three long-zoom compacts, the PowerShot Elph 330 HS, the Elph 115 IS and the A2500. The Elph 330 HS, called the Ixus 225 HS in Europe, is a Wi-Fi capable 12MP CMOS camera featuring a 10x, 24-240mm equivalent lens. The Elph 115 IS, known as the Ixus 132 in Europe, has a 16MP CCD sensor and an 8x, 28-224mm equiv stabilized zoom. A Wi-Fi variant, called the Ixus 135 is available in Europe. Finally, the A2500 is an inexpensive model using the same 16MP CCD chip placed behind a 28-140mm equiv zoom. It has a slightly smaller screen than the A2600 launched at CES.

LZeal releases ezShare wireless SDHC card with a Wi-Fi on/off switch

Chinese software company LZeal has announced ezShare - a Wi-Fi SDHC card with an on/off switch to reduce power consumption in cameras without menu options to control such cards. When the wireless function is turned on, images can be accessed via a web browser, suggesting it offers an HTTP server, like Toshiba's FlashAir cards. There are also dedicated apps for smartphones and tablets. The Class 10 SD cards are available in 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities. Prices and availability information to be confirmed.

CameraMator - Kickstarter project offers Wi-Fi tethering for DSLRs

CameraMator is one of the more interesting photographic gadgets we saw at CES this year. It's a Kickstarter-funded Wi-Fi tethering accessory for Canon and Nikon DSLRs that gives remote live view, camera triggering and image download to Android and iOS devices. The device itself mounts on the hot shoe and can connect to a local Wi-Fi network or peer-to-peer with the mobile device. CES 2013: Nikon has announced the Wi-Fi-enabled Coolpix S6500 compact camera. It includes the latest 'Glamour Retouch' effects including 'Reduce Dark Circles' and 'Redden Cheeks'. The camera is built around a 16MP BSI-CMOS sensor, 12x 25-300mm (equiv.) optical zoom lens and offers Full HD video recording capabilities. It will available late January for a suggested retail price of $219.95 in silver, black, red, and orange.

Sony launches five Cyber-shot compacts including Wi-Fi and waterproof models

CES 2013: Sony has announced five Cyber-Shot compacts, including the Wi-Fi-capable, 16MP CMOS-based DSC-WX80 with its 25-200mm equivalent zoom lens. There are also two CCD-based W-series cameras - the DSC-W730 which shares its lens with the WX80, and the DSC-W710 that has a 5x 28-140mm equiv. zoom. Beyond these are the 16MP CCD-based 5x rugged, waterproof DSC-TF1 and the 26x DSC-H200 superzoom.

CES 2013: Samsung has announced six Wi-Fi capable compact cameras, including compact superzooms and its latest Dual-View model. The WB250F is an 18x, 24-432mm equiv compact superzoom with a 3.0" touch screen and the company's latest Wi-Fi implementation - dubbed 'Smart 2.0.' The WB250F uses a 14MP BSI CMOS sensor while its near-twin, the WB200F, uses a 14MP CCD chip. Meanwhile the WB800F uses a 16MP BSI CMOS sensor behind a 21x, 23-483mm equivalent lens. The WB30F uses a 16MP CCD with 24-240mm equivalent lens. The latest DualView model shares the same sensor and a 25-125mm equiv zoom and includes a 1.5" front LCD. The ST150F is a budget style compact - taking most of the DV150F's features but without the front screen and costing $20 less.

Panasonic launches DMC-TS5 waterproof Wi-Fi compact

CES 2013: Panasonic has announced the Lumix DMC-TS5 (FT5 in Europe) and TS25 (FT25 in Europe) compact waterproof and shock-resistant 'adventure' cameras. The higher specified TS5 is waterproof at depths of up to 12m (39 feet) features a 28-128mm equiv 4.6x zoom lens, 1080p60 video and Wi-Fi capability. New on offer is Near Field Communication (NFC), a close-proximity radio connection that the camera can use to initiate a Wi-Fi connection with a compatible device simply by tapping the two together. The cameras will be available at the end of March in a range of colors.

Panasonic adds DMC-LZ30 35x budget superzoom to lineup

CES 2013: Panasonic has introduced the DMC-LZ30, a 35x superzoom offering a 25-875mm equivalent zoom range, based around a 16MP sensor. The LZ30 features a large, 3.0", 460k dot LCD and uses a CCD sensor, restricting it to 720p HD video output. In common with most of the cameras being launched at CES, it features a resolution-boosting extra zoom mode, HDR, panorama function and a choice of pre- and post-shot creative effects.
