Samsung releases RAW Converter 3.2
Samsung has released an updated version of its RAW converter software. Version 3.2 extends support to the company's recently released TL500/EX1 premium compact. The latest version is compatible with both Mac and Windows OS, except Windows 7.

Samsung posts firmware update for NX10
Samsung has posted a firmware update for its NX10 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. Version 1.15 adds features including selectable manual focus assist. It also claims to enhance overall stability of the camera amongst other improvements. The firmware is currently available via the Samsung Imaging website and requires users to register before downloading. As firmware v1.15 addresses some of the criticisms raised in our review of the camera, we plan to revise the review to reflect this.

Just Posted: Our review of the Samsung NX10. It's been just over a year since Samsung announced its NX mirrorless interchangeable lens camera system, the first to feature an APS-C sized sensor as used in the most popular DSLRs. It packs a 14.7MP sensor and 'VGA resolution' LED screen into a small, DSLR-like body that exactly resembles the mockup shown by the company back in March 2009. We've been thoroughly testing it to see whether its combination of high resolution sensor and small body is enough to win over people who would otherwise buy a DSLR or Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera.

Samsung promises faster memory with 20nm chips
Samsung has announced production of the first flash memory cards to use its 20-nanometer (nm) process technology. It will incorporate the new 32 gigabit MLC NAND chips into memory cards ranging from 4GB through 64GB capacities. According to the company, the 20nm-class MLC NAND chips deliver 50% higher productivity level and 30% faster write speeds than the previous generation 30nm chips. Samsung has started shipping 20nm-class 32Gb NAND based SD card samples to customers and plans to expand production later this year.

Samsung issues firmware v1.05 for NX10
Samsung has released a firmware update for its NX10 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. The firmware, available from the company's website doesn't acknowledge any additional changes beyond those made in version 1.04. These include getting long-exposure noise reduction to engage for exposures longer than 1 sec (rather than 4sec), and changing the default focus point selection method in P,A,S and M modes.

Samsung Digital Imaging to merge with Electronics
Samsung Electronics has confirmed its planned merger with Samsung Digital Imaging, which will bring the Korean conglomerate's camera division under the same roof as its other consumer electronics businesses such as mobile phones and printers. From April 1, 2010, the camera business will become part of Samsung Electronics with an objective 'to increase management efficiency of the digital camera business and to maximize synergy between businesses'. A year ago the imaging division spun-out from the company's affiliated machinery division, Samsung Techwin, to form an independent camera and optical devices company. Since then it's released a series of ambitious new products, including the mirrorless interchangeable-lens NX system and the enthusiast-orientated TL500/EX1 recently unveiled at PMA.

Novoflex shows adapters for Samsung NX
PMA 2010: Novoflex has unveiled a series of mount adapters for Samsung's NX mirrorless cameras. The German manufacturer is showing nine adapters to various lens mounts, including Sony Alpha, Pentax K, Olympus OM and Leica R. There is also a Nikon F mount adapter featuring the aperture control ring the company includes on its Micro Four Thirds to Nikon F adapter. So far there are no details on price or availability.

Samsung unveils TL500/EX1 with fast f/1.8-2.4 lens
Pre-PMA 2010: Samsung has released the TL500 (EX1 in Europe) premium compact camera with a fast f/1.8-2.4 wide angle 3x (24-72mm equiv.) image stabilized zoom lens. It comes with an 1/1.7" 10MP CCD sensor and a 3.0" multi-angle AMOLED display. The camera also offers full manual control, RAW capture, VGA video recording in H.264 format and a new faster DRIMeIII processor.

Five more NX lenses from Samsung in 2010
Samsung has announced that it plans to roll-out five more lenses for its NX system in 2010. The new range includes a 20mm f/2.8 pancake, 60mm f/2.8 macro, 20-50mm compact zoom, 18-200mm superzoom and another version of the 18-55mm kit lens without image stabilization (O.I.S.). The lenses will be released through the course of this year.

Samsung releases AQ100/WP10 waterproof compact
Pre-PMA 2010: Samsung has released the AQ100 waterproof ultracompact (known as WP10 outside the US). It has been designed to operate underwater to a depth of 3 meters and features a dedicated Aqua mode, that optimizes camera settings for underwater photography. The 12MP camera comes with a 2.7" LCD, 5x (36-180mm equiv) internal zoom lens and 720p HD video recording.

Samsung announces TL350/WB2000 with 1080p HD
Pre-PMA 2010: Samsung has announced the TL350 (WB2000 in Europe) with full 1080p HD video recording. The camera comes with a 10MP CMOS sensor and offers P/A/S/M shooting modes, RAW capture and high-speed video recording at up to 1000 fps. It also features an 'advanced panorama' mode with object tracking, and a dual capture mode that allows users to capture stills whilst recording videos. A 3" AMOLED screen rounds off the specification.

Samsung updates firmware for NX lenses
Samsung has released firmware updates for all of its NX lenses. Firmware v1.1 improves autofocus accuracy of the 18-55mm kit lens, 50-200mm telezoom and 30mm F2 pancake lens. The updates are available for immediate download from Samsung's website.

Samsung unveils HZ35W & HZ30W superzooms
Samsung has unveiled the HZ35W and HZ30W compact superzooms. The new image-stabilized cameras increase their zoom ranges to 15x, starting at a very useful 24mm equivalent. (A worlds first in a camera so slim) The HZ35W (WB650 in Europe) includes built-in GPS and a 3.0" AMOLED display while the HZ30W (WB600) has neither, instead featuring a 3.0" LCD. Both cameras feature 12.2MP sensors and 720p HD video recording using H.264 compression. They succeed the TL320 (WB) and HZ15W (WB).

Samsung releases TL110 & TL105 digital cameras
Samsung has released the TL110 and TL105 ultra compact cameras. The 14.2 megapixel TL110 (ST70 in Europe) and 12 megapixel TL105 (ST60) offer 2.7 inch LCDs, wide angle zoom lenses starting at 27mm equivalent and offer 720p HD video recording using H.264 compression. Both include scene modes such as Fisheye, Lomo and a DeFog Clear/Fog Lifting mode that claims to cut through haze to take clearer images.

Samsung announces SL630 digital compact
Samsung has unveiled the SL630 budget compact camera. The camera, called PL80 in Europe, is designed with a 12.2 megapixel sensor, 5x (28-140mm equiv.) zoom lens and 2.7 inch LCD. It includes image stabilization, focus tracking and 'Perfect Portrait' system. Priced at £129.99, the camera will be available from March 2010.

Samsung TL210 and TL205 update 2View camera range
Pre-CES 2010: Samsung has updated its 2View range of dual LCD compact cameras with the launch of the TL210 and TL205 (PL150 and PL100 in Europe). The cameras share a 12MP sensor but the TL210 features a 5X image stabilized zoom starting at a useful 27mm equivalent, while the TL205 makes do with a less flexible, unstabilized 35-105mm equiv. (3X) lens. The TL210 also offers 720p HD video and a 3.0" rear LCD, whereas the TL205 offers VGA recording and a 2.7" screen. Both cameras are designed to lean backwards slightly when placed on a flat surface which, when combined with the dual LCD design, helps when taking self-portraits.

Samsung lauches CL80 and TL240 hydro-formed compacts
Pre-CES 2010: Samsung has launched the CL80 and TL240 stylish touch-screen cameras. Both cameras feature 14MP sensors housed in hydro-formed metal bodies. The CL80 (ST5500 in Europe) offers a 3.7" AMOLED touch-sensitive display while the TL240 (ST5000) has a simpler 3.5" LCD screen. The CL80 also offers both Wi-Fi and BlueTooth connectivity for transferring movies and images. Both have 7X zoom lenses and 720p HD video. Both models are inclined towards self-timer photos - they tilt backwards at 7 degrees to ensure they point up towards the subject.

Samsung NX10 Beta Samples Gallery
Just posted! An extensive gallery of 48 shots taken with an early pre-production sample of Samsung's new Micro Four Thirds competitor, the NX10 (using both 30mm pancake and 18-55mm zoom kit lenses). As both camera and lenses are very early 'beta' samples we must stress that these shots may not fully represent the final 'shipping' image quality so please bear this in mind when looking at the out of camera JPEGs.
