Samsung releases source code for NX300 and NX2000 mirrorless cameras

Samsung has published the source code for its NX300 and NX2000 mirrorless cameras - the first attempt we've seen at offering public access to a mainstream camera's operating system. The approach, which the company has previously used with its smartphones, stands in stark contrast to other camera manufacturers, which have not engaged with the community of programmers looking to enhance the capabilities of their cameras.

Samsung announces NX2000 mirrorless APS-C camera with Wi-Fi and NFC

Samsung's latest addition to its line of NX mirrorless cameras, the NX2000, adds Wi-Fi and NFC in a bid to make yet another of its mirrorless cameras compatible with the smartphone world. The 20MP camera's Near Field Communication (NFC) technology allows setup of Wi-Fi connections with compatible smartphones and tablets by simply tapping the devices together. It features a large 3.7-inch 1152k-dot touchscreen LCD, offers 8fps continuous shooting and Full HD video recording. Priced around $649.99, the camera will be available as a kit with the 20-50mm lens and a copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, in white, black and pink.

iFixit tears down Samsung Galaxy S4, finds it surprisingly repairable

We starting to test the camera capabilities of the brand new Samsung Galaxy S4, but the guys at iFixit.com have been tearing theirs apart. The iFixit crew cracked open the S4 to see what its inner workings tell us about the latest flagship phone from Samsung, and how easily it can be repaired. The S4 came through iFixit's teardown with flying colors, receiving an 8 out of 10 repairability score for its replaceable battery and straightforward disassembly. Samsung US ships NX1100 mirrorless APS-C camera for $599.99

Samsung has announced the broader US availability of its 20MP NX1100 Wi-Fi mirrorless camera, which was initially announced by B&H. Priced at $599.99, the camera is available now in black or white and comes with a copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. In common with its predecessor, the NX1000, it includes 8fps continuous shooting, a 3-inch/921k-dot rear display and Full HD video recording. The only significant change is the Autoshare feature that automatically sends full resolution images and videos to mobile devices over Wi-Fi. There is currently no information about a European release.

Samsung stretches smartphone sizing with new Galaxy Mega 'phablets'

Samsung has announced two 'phablet'-sized additions to its line of smartphones, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Galaxy Mega 5.8. At 6.3 and 5.8 inches respectively, the large-display phablets push far beyond Samsung's 5.5-inch Samsung Galaxy Note II, and the larger of the two sets a new industry-record for smartphone size. Wi-Fi version of Samsung's Galaxy Camera to sell for $450 in the US

Samsung US has announced the Wi-Fi version of its Galaxy Camera will be available from the end of this month at a retail price $449.99 - $50 less than the version with both 3G/4G and Wi-Fi. Announced in February 2013, the Wi-Fi model shares the same feature-set as the 3G and 4G versions, including a 21x, 23-481mmm equivalent zoom lens on the front with a 4.8" touchscreen on the back. Samsung announces price and availability of NX300 and 45mm F1.8 3D lens

Samsung has announced that its NX300 mirrorless camera will be available in both US and European markets by the end of this month as a kit with the 20-50mm lens for $749.99 and £599 respectively. The 3D-capable camera is built around a 20MP sensor, 3.3" OLED screen and built-in Wi-Fi. The kit will also include a free copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 editing software. The company has also announced that the 45mm F1.8 2D/3D lens will be available at the same time for $499.99. There is currently no information about its European price.

Samsung UK to include Adobe Lightroom 4 with NX300 shipments

Samsung UK has announced it will include a copy of Adobe Lightroom 4 photo-editing software for free with its NX300 APS-C mirrorless camera shipments. Announced at the CES 2013 tradeshow,the 3D-capable camera is built around a 20MP sensor, 3.3" OLED screen and built-in Wi-fi. We do not know whether this is a UK-only bundle, but we will update the story if more information becomes available.

Samsung ships WB250F and DV150F Wi-Fi enabled Smart cameras

Samsung has started shipping its Wi-Fi enabled DV150F dual-LCD and WB250F compact cameras at retail prices of $149.99 and $249.99 respectively. Announced at the CES 2013 tradeshow, the WB250F is an 18x, 24-432mm equiv compact superzoom with a 3.0" touch screen and the company's latest Wi-Fi implementation - dubbed 'Smart 2.0.' The DV150F is 16MP CCD with a 25-125mm equiv zoom and includes a 2.7" LCD and a 1.5" front LCD. UK and European pricing and availability have yet to be confirmed.

The result of this fusion of technologies is a compact superzoom camera with a 23mm wideangle, 21x zoom lens and pop-up flash that offers the ability to edit images on the go.
