Phase One has released an updated version of its Capture One 5, PRO and DB RAW workflow software bringing in a host of improvements, additional features and bug fixes. Version 5.2 extends the programs' Lens Cast Calibration (LCC) feature that aims to remove lens casts to DSLR RAW files and adds LCC based dust removal. It also improves handling of a number of Nikon camera files and supports Leica X1 Raw files. The update can be accessed via Capture One's update feature for existing users or is available as a free 30 day trial.
Phase One, Mamiya and lighting manufacturer Profoto have jointly announced the V-Grip Air, a vertical grip with built-in wireless flash trigger. The V-Grip Air, designed for the Phase One and Mamiya 645DF cameras allows wireless flash control at sync speeds up to 1/1600s. The wireless system works with all current and most modern Profoto flash systems and can be used with other makers' flashes using an optional Profoto transceiver unit. The grip will be priced at $1290/€990 while the transceiver unit for third-party flashes costs $199/€149.

Following the acquisition of Microsoft's Expression Media digital asset management software, version 5.1.2 improves compatibility between the two applications allowing users to create albums, transfer ratings and preview Capture One files using Expression Media. Version 5.1.2 also enhances support for Leaf digital backs and extends RAW support for additional cameras including Leaf Aptus-II 10R and Olympus E-PL1. Phase One has released Capture One 5 PRO, the latest version of its RAW workflow software. It extends RAW support for additional DSLRs and digital backs and includes a host of new features including Focus Tool and Focus Mask that allows users to instantly assess and make selections from the focused area in images. It also features a new Skin Tone enhancer for smoother skin tones. Furthermore, users can now add vignetting to images, adjust individual color channels and edit an expanded set of metadata fields. The software is currently available for US $399 and €299 from Phase One's website with reduced-price upgrades for version 4 users.
Phase One has released the 645DF medium format camera developed with Mamiya Digital Imaging. The camera, which will be available under both brand names, offers flash sync speeds of up to 1/1600 of a second as well as faster AF and capture rates than its predecessors. It is the only digital 645 series camera offering both focal plane and leaf shutters and it is compatible with most digital backs designed for the Phase One and Mamiya AFD mount, including those from Phase One, Leaf and Mamiya. The two companies have also announced a partnership with lens specialist Schneider Kreuznach. The first results are 55mm, 80mm and 110mm F/2.8 leaf shutter lenses designed for the 645DF. The new camera and lenses are expected to start shipping by the end of this year. The 645DF is priced at $5990/€4290 and the lenses start at $2490/€1790.
Phase One and product managers of medium format maker Leaf are in the process of buying key elements relating to the Leaf brand from owners Kodak. These brand rights, research and development and production capabilities are being bought by a new company called Leaf Imaging Ltd which is 100% owned by Phase One. The new entity will have access to Kodak's intellectual property portfolio via a licensing agreement. The new company will continue to make and develop the Leaf Aptus range of digital backs but will not initially sell the AFi-II camera system. We spoke to Phase One's President and CEO who explained what the deal will mean for Leaf users.
Phase One has announced the P40+ medium format digital back. The new system incorporates the company's Sensor+ technology that offers both a full 40MP resolution capture mode and a second 10MP 'Sensor+' mode for faster image capture. The Sensor+ mode also increases maximum sensitivity from ISO 800 (in full resolution mode) to ISO 3200. The camera has started shipping at approximately €14,990 for the digital back and €16,990 for the camera system.

Version 4.7 introduces a new Enhanced Image Package (.EIP) file format that combines Capture One changes with lens calibration data and the original RAW data in a single file. Phase One has released Capture One 4 PRO, a new version of its RAW workflow software. The lastest version features an enhanced Color Editor and Styles palette. A new Skin Tone tool has been added that helps to set and reproduce skin tones without the use of a gray card. In addition, a lens correction tool has been added to help minimize chromatic aberration, distortion, fringing and features a vignetting tool for framing.
Pre-Photokina 2008: Phase One has announced the 3.5/45mm TS, a tilt-shift lens developed in collaboration with Hartblei. The 45mm lens offers up to 12 mm shift (combined with a 360 degree rotation) and 8 degrees tilt. In addition, it is bundled with Phase One’s Capture One 4 Lens and Focus optical correction technology.
Phase One's Capture One RAW conversion software has reached version 4, and arrives sporting a new underlying architecture and interface - so a major upgrade by all accounts. The new interface places the point of focus on the the image - or indeed images as one may now open up to 12 simultaneously at full resolution. Multiple versions of a RAW file may also be created with 'virtually no disk and performance overhead'. The shortcut system has been upgraded too, making accessing frequently-used functions a breeze. Phase One and SanDisk have today jointly announced that every SanDisk Extreme III CompactFlash card will come bundled with a copy of Capture One LE RAW Workflow and also include a 15 percent discount off an upgrade from Capture One LE to Capture One Pro. It's a logical move when you consider that more use of RAW will result in sales of larger, faster cards, for Phase One it's a great way to promote their product to a wider audience.
Phase One has updated its Capture One RAW workflow software to support more cameras and more RAW file formats. Capture One version 3.7.4 is now also designed to run natively on both Intel and PowerPC based Mac computers, with speed increases of up to 40 per cent for Intel Macs. Capture One 3.7.4 also offers speed enhancements for Windows and PowerPC Mac users and is a free update for existing users.
