Hands on with the Pentax 645Z

It's hard to resist the opportunity to play with a new medium format DSLR, so we quickly took up Ricoh's offer to try out its 645Z. While it may look intimidating, the 645Z is surprisingly accessible, with an experience that feels strangely familiar to those who have handled Pentax cameras like the K-3. It's also a bargain by medium format standards, and not a huge step up from full-frame. Learn more about the 645Z.

Wireless K-3 control: Pentax FluCard review

The Pentax O-FC1 FluCard offers quite a bit more than just Wi-Fi image sharing and transfers, but not quite as much as some wired tethering applications. This makes it a mixed bag as a general camera tool, but one that has been entirely out of reach for Pentax for quite some time.. In light of this, is it worth the $99 price tag? Find out in our review

Pentax firmware v1.02 for K-3 allows bracketing by AA filter mode

Pentax has released new firmware for its flagship K-3 DSLR, allowing users to bracket exposures by AA filter simulation mode. As a reminder, the K-3 lacks a physical anti-aliasing filter, but simulates the blurring effect via minute movement of its sensor, with two intensity levels available (three if you include 'off'). Firmware v1.02 allows you to shoot a burst of sequential images at each AA filter level, to fine-tune the optimal balance between resolution and artifacts like moiré.

When Ricoh's Pentax K-3 was announced we were intrigued by the 'anti-aliasing simulator' feature, a first for a DSLR. The K-3 allows you to engage its low-pass filtering at the push of a button. We recently shot some real-world samples taken in a range of conditions to see how it stacks up against the current K-5 models. Our gallery was shot on with the anti-aliasing filter set to off (the default setting). See gallery
