Photographer Henrik Sorensen has uploaded an interesting behind-the-scenes YouTube video of his recent 'submerged fairy' shoot for the advertising campaign for Hasselblad's H5D digital medium format camera. Responding to the swift and negative reaction to its just-announced Lunar mirrorless camera, Hasselblad's business development manager, Luca Alessandrini, forcefully defended the venerable camera maker's new partnership with Sony in an interview with the British Journal of Photography. Alessandrini also says that the decision to use the NEX-7 Sony sensor for the first Lunar camera doesn't preclude the company from making sensor modifications for future models.

Sony and Hasselblad have announced a partnership that will result in an E-mount camera, a compact camera and a product for the DSLR segment. Hasselblad says the aim of the partnership is to 'cultivate new markets for photo enthusiasts and consumer digital imaging products' and will begin with an E-mount camera, called the Hasselblad Lunar. The use of the words 'DSLR segment' implicity doesn't rule-out the possibility that Hasselblad will adopt Sony's SLT system (or simply re-brand one of its models).

Photokina 2012: Hasselblad plans to release a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera utilizing Sony's E-Mount. The Hasselblad Lunar, which is expected to cost around €5000 (~$6500) appears to share a lot of technology with Sony's recent NEX-7 model, including the same 24.3MP CMOS sensor, OLED 'True Finder' EVF, and the 'TriNavi' navigation system. The Lunar, which is set for launch in the first quarter of 2013, will be available 'in a choice of standard models plus a variety of exclusive hand grips and precious materials on special order.' Photokina 2012: Hasselblad is to update its full line up of H System medium format camera and lenses, promising better focus features and 'the largest, brightest viewfinder image on the market.' The H5D series is expected to start shipping by December, and will include 40, 50 and 60 megapixel models, as well as 50 and 200 megapixel multi-shot versions. The latest cameras feature an updated user interface and revised image processors for improved JPEG output. The Swedish company will also introduce a 24mm F4.8 lens, equivalent to a 17mm lens on a 135 format DSLR. An additional macro converter will work with wide angle lenses.

Hasselblad has announced a camera capable of producing 200MP images based on shifting its 50MP sensor. The H4D-200MS uses an extension of the company's sensor-shift, multi-shot (MS) technology to create a 200 megapixel file from six images taken at slight offsets. It can also use the four-shot mode used by the H4D-50MS that shifts the sensor by one pixel in each direction to capture all colors at each position. The latest approach adds 1/2pixel offsets to increase the captured resolution to 200MP. The H4D-200MS is available for €32,000 or as a €7,000 factory-return upgrade for H4D-50MS owners.

Nikon and Hasselblad have announced updated versions of their ViewNX and Phocus software. ViewNX v2.1.1 fixes a series of minor bugs in both Mac and PC versions. Hasselblad's Phocus v2.6 adds new features such as image rating and dust removal. The company has also released 'Quick' and 'Mobile' versions of Phocus.

Hasselblad has announced a 100-unit limited edition of its H4D-40 medium format camera in stainless steel. The company has also said the H4D Ferrari limited edition, announced at Photokina 2010, is now available at retail prices of €21,499 and $29,499. The Ferrari edition comes with the company's 80mm lens, a special case and the Phocus image editing software. It is limited to 499 units.

Photokina 2010: Hasselblad has introduced the H4D-31 medium format camera with a 31Mp sensor. It features the 'True Focus' AF system of the the H4D series and offers an optional CF-lens adapter to mount the company's V-System lenses (also available as part of a kit). The company has also introduced the CFV-50 medium format digital back with a 50Mp sensor. The H4D-31 camera and CFV-50 digital back are available at retail prices of €9,995 and €11,990 respectively. Furthermore, Hasselblad has also updated its Phocus image processing software to version 2.6.

Photokina 2010: Hasselblad has announced upgraded versions of its 120mm macro and 50mm HC series medium format lenses. Both the HC Macro 120-II and HC 50mm-II have been optimised for higher resolution shooting and deliver better close range performance. The company will also release a firmware upgrade for the H4D series of medium format cameras later this year which brings in a number of additional features in response to customer feedback.

Hasselblad has released a Mac update for its Phocus image processing software which extends RAW support to third party camera files. Version 2.5 allows processing of files from manufacturers including Canon, Nikon, Leica, Sony, Fujifilm and Olympus. It also includes a host of new features, and supports common file formats such as JPEG, DNG, PNG and TIFF. The company says that the Windows version of Phocus 2.5 will be released by mid-June and will include all the latest improvements excluding support for third party files. The Mac version will be available as a free download from May 19th from Hasselblad's website.

Hasselblad has launched the H4D-40, 40 megapixel medium format camera. It incorporates a 33 x 44mm CCD sensor (almost twice the size of a full-frame 35mm DSLR sensor) and includes the 'True Focus' AF system introduced in the H4D-50 and 60. The H4D-40 kit, including camera body, 80mm lens and viewfinder is available at a retail price of US $19,955 (£12,995) and includes the company's Phocus 2.0 software.

Hasselblad has announced a Multi-Shot (MS) version of its H3DII-50 medium format camera. First shown in the H3DII-39 MS in 2008, the system captures four shots in a row, moving the sensor by one pixel between each shot to record full RGB values at each position. THe H3DII-50 MS costs €23,000 with less expensive trade-in prices and a trade-up route for Hasselblad owners.

Hasselblad has introduced two new cameras to its H System of medium format cameras. First comes the H4D-60 with a 60MP sensor. It features the 'True Focus' AF system that can measure the movement of the camera when recomposing after focusing to ensure that focus remains on the target - a system Hasselblad calls Absolute Position Lock. Along with the H4D-60, the company has also launched the H4D-50 with a 50MP sensor, replacing the H3DII-50. The H4D-60 will start shipping from November 2009 at a retail price of €28,995 and the H4D-50 will ship in the first quarter of 2010 at a retail price of €19,995.

Hasselblad has announced the CFV-39 digital back to be used in conjunction with its V series of camera bodies. Featuring a 39 megapixel sensor, it offers two capture formats: 4:3 and square (at 29MP). It allows tethered shooting and offers a capture rate of 0.7fps. The bundled image processing software features digital lens correction for Carl Zeiss lenses that corrects distortion, lateral chromatic aberration and vignetting.

Engineers at Swedish medium format specialist Hasselblad have cooked-up the highest resolution 48 x 36 mm camera: the H3DII-50. The company has announced its intention to produce a 645 format sensor. Continuing the company's long history of collaboration with Kodak, the new camera is based around the US company's new 50MP sensor. The new body is also designed to accomodate the company's HTS 1.5 Tilt/Shift cradle that allows traditional lenses to be tilted and shifted.

At Photokina last September Hasselblad launched their '48 mm Full-Frame DSLR camera system' the H3D. At the time there were two models, the 22 and 39 megapixels, Hasselblad has now announced a 31 megpixel option; the H3D-31. Unlike the 22 and 39 megapixel cameras the 31 megapixel unit isn't quite "Full-Frame 48mm" as its sensor measures 44x33mm, however it does surpass them in another respect; it uses microlenses to improve fill factor and gain a stop of sensitivity; now up to ISO 800. Unless you win the lottery the H3D-31 is unlikely to be replacing your Digital Rebel as it's priced at US$ 24,995.

Photokina 2006: Hasselblad has announced the new H3D medium format camera system which Hasselblad is confusingly describing as 'the World's first 48 mm full-frame DSLR camera system'. The digital back part of the camera features a 48 x 36 mm sensor (which sounds to us like two full-frame 35 mm sensors stitched together) and will be available in either 22 or 39 megapixel flavors. The big controversy surrounding the H3D is that it no longer supports third party backs, only Hasselblad's own backs.

Medium format specialist Hasselblad has announced two new cameras and two digital backs based on a new digital platform that build on the success of the H1. The flagship H2 cross-platform and H2D fully integrated digital cameras and offer improved mobility, quality and workflow. They feature a highly advanced image approval and selection tool which provides a swift and easy way to select and classify images. New products in the Ixpress digital back line are the Ixpress CF and Ixpress CFH. All products will become available in the third quarter.

Hasselblad has announced the acquisition and merger with Imacon, the digital cameraback and scanner company. The new company will be called Hasselblad Imacon and will be clearly targeting the professional digital market. Christian Poulsen, founder of Imacon and new CEO of Hasselblad said, "Both companies are committed to producing the highest quality products and the integration of established technological expertise and vision will ensure we maximise penetration for both new and existing products in the marketplace."
