Apple releases Final Cut Pro X video editing software
Apple has announced Final Cut Pro X, the latest version of its popular high-end video editing software. Final Cut Pro X features a trackless canvas, that Apple is calling a 'Magnetic Timeline' for flexible arranging and editing of clips. It's also possible to 'audition' different combinations of clips to make it easier to choose between multiple takes. The software also features improved tagging (including auto-analysis of clips) to make it easier to manage and locate the clips you want to use. Final Cut Pro X is available from the Mac App Store for $299/£179.

Apple adds photographic features for iOS5
Apple has announced details of the forthcoming versions of its iOS operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. With these devices ranking among the most used on popular photo-sharing sites, it comes as no surprise that several new features in iOS5 are specifically aimed at photographers. These including additional camera features for the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad2, such as the ability to overlay thirds gridlines, and wireless syncing of photographs between iOS devices using Apple's new iCloud service.

Apple releases RAW compatibility update
Apple has released a digital camera RAW compatibility update for Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11. Update 3.6 extends RAW support to six additional cameras including the Canon Rebel T3/T3i, Olympus E-5 and Pentax K-5. It also addresses processing issues for four already supported cameras. The update is available for immediate download from Apple's website.

Apple slashes Aperture price to US $79.99
Apple has slashed the price of its Aperture 3 raw-conversion and photo management software for Mac OS to $79.99 (originally priced at $199), when purchased as an app from its latest Mac App store. It is available for £44.99 in UK and €62.99 the European App store.
Update: Speaking to dpreview.com an Apple spokesperson would not comment on whether or not the Aperture 3 App store pricing is permanent, or part of a time-limited introductory offer. At present however, there is nothing to indicate either that the App store pricing is temporary, or that the version of Aperture 3 available from the App store differs in any way from the normal retail version.

Apple updates Aperture software and introduces iLife '11
Apple has released an updated version of its Aperture raw-conversion and photo management software and has launched a new version of its iLife suite - iLife '11. Available for immediate download, Aperture v3.1 fixes a number of bugs and adds compatibility with iLife '11. The application suite comprises iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, iDVD and Garageband, and is included with new Mac computers. Existing iLife users can upgrade to the newest version for $49.

Phase One, DxO Labs & Apple update RAW converters
Phase One, DxO Labs and Apple have released updates to their RAW workflow software. Phase One has updated its Capture One 5, PRO and DB programs to version 5.1.1, bringing in improvements for Sony cameras and extending tethered shooting and RAW support to the Canon EOS 550D, Mamiya DM40 and Leaf Aptus II 8 digital cameras. DXO Labs has added 70 lens and cameras combinations to its Optics Pro software. And finally, version 3.0.2 of Apple's Aperture brings in several improvements and bug fixes. All updates are available for immediate download.

Two weeks after releasing Aperture 3, Apple has released an update to its raw-conversion and photo management software. Version 3.0.1 improves overall stability and fixes a number of bugs. Apple unveils Aperture 3 raw workflow software
Apple has unveiled Aperture 3, the latest version of its raw-conversion and photo management software. It promises faster organization of large number of images and offers over 200 new features. Changes include a new Faces and Places option that enables Face detection and geotagging, an improved slideshow feature that combines photos and HD videos, and a new Brushes feature to 'paint' effects on images. Mac users who already own Aperture will be able to upgrade for US $99, while new customers can buy it for US$199.

Kodak challenges Apple and RIM on patent
Kodak is challenging Apple and Research In Motion Limited (RIM) companies over alleged infringement of a camera technology patent. Kodak is claiming image preview technologies used in Apple's iPhone and RIM's camera-enabled BlackBerry mobile phones are covered by one of its patents. This follows a similar dispute with Samsung that was settled earlier this week.
