Adobe Camera RAW 3.3 with D200 support
Adobe has now posted the final (non-beta) Camera RAW 3.3 plug-in which now has full official support for the Nikon D200. This new release adds support for 17 new camera models (including the Canon EOS 5D, Nikon D200, Olympus E-500 and Sony DSC-R1) as well as adding a range of new features and an enhanced Bayer demosaic algorithm. This RAW converter / importer is well respected and has become the standard for many photographers (and reviewers).

Adobe Lightroom Beta
Macworld 2006: Adobe has today announced a new application aimed squarely at the digital photographer. Lightroom is a workflow and editting application which takes all of the useful photography related stuff from Photoshop and combines this with a sophisticated importation, browsing and organizational front-end. Lightroom is clearly aimed at taking on Apple Aperture as well as a few other high end workflow tools. At the moment Lightroom is available as a Mac OS X only Beta for anyone to try.

Following the news that Adobe completed the acquisition of Macromedia (3 December 2005), the company has now announced three new product bundles for design, video and web solutions. The Adobe Design Bundle includes Creative Suite 2 Premium with Flash Professional 8 software; the Adobe Web Bundle brings together CS 2 Premium and Studio 8; and the Adobe Video Bundle offers video solutions coupled with Flash Professional 8. The Adobe Design Bundle and Web Bundle are available now priced £1381 and £1656 respectively. The Adobe Video Bundle is expected to ship in early 2006.

Adobe post Camera RAW 3.3 Beta
Adobe has today posted the Adobe Camera RAW 3.3 Beta plug-in for Photoshop CS2 (ACR). This RAW converter / importer is well respected and has become the standard for many photographers. Version 3.3 Beta adds support for several new camera models including the Canon EOS 5D, EOS-1D Mark II N, Olympus E-500, Pentax *ist DL & DS2 and the Sony CyberShot DSC-R1. There are also several improvements including newly tuned demosaic algorithms, improved redraw speed and "legacy" IPTC support. Note that the converter is still considered to be in 'Beta' form.

Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 3.2
Adobe has today announced version 3.2 of its Camera Raw plug-in for Photoshop CS2, which extends support to the RAW file formats of 13 digital cameras and backs. The plug-in is available as a free download from the Adobe website or comes with Photoshop CS2 and now supports DNG files. The new plug-in adds support for Panasonic, Hasselblad, Konica Minolta (Maxxum 5D), Leaf (digital backs), Leica and Nikon cameras including the D2Hs, D70s and D50. Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0

Adobe Systems has today announced Photoshop Elements 4.0. The lite version of Adobe's professional image editing program Photoshop, offers a new automatic red-eye removal function, which detects face shapes in images and removes red-eye as photos are downloaded from the camera. It also features a new Magic Selection brush for adjustments to specific parts of an image as well as Magic Extractor and new Skin Tone Adjustment. Adobe has developed the tagging feature found in Elements 3.0 with the new Face Tagging, which automatically detects faces in a photo so they can be easily tagged and quickly found later. Photoshop Elements 4.0 is currently only available for Windows, priced £69.99. A spokesman for Adobe said that the program will be supported on the Mac in the 'near future'.

Adobe and Nikon, friends again
Following news earlier in the year that Nikon was trying to lock out third party RAW file converters, including Adobe, the two companies have now decided to work together for the common good. Adobe has announced that it is 'committed to working with Nikon to ensure that our common customers have an excellent experience when using Nikon cameras with Adobe software.' And Nikon, for its part, says it 'intends to co-operate with Adobe and other industry members in order to pursue its objective of providing images with better quality, convenience and usefulness to end users.'

Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition v3.0

Adobe has released a new 'lite' version of image management software program Photoshop Album Starter Edition. Version 3.0 is free to download an offers some of the features of Photoshop Album such as basic image editing, organization tools, and the ability to share your images in a slideshow or email them to family and friends.

Adobe Bridge software update v1.02
Adobe has today posted a software update for its file browsing program in Photoshop CS2. Adobe Bridge version 1.02 update delivers overall improved stability and performance and is recommended for all Adobe Bridge customers. Adobe Bridge was based on the file browser introduced in Photoshop 7.0 and allows you to organize, browse, locate and view the assets you need with visual previews and scalable thumbnails.

Adobe Camera RAW v3.1 and DNG Converter v3.1
Adobe has today announced version 3.1 of Camera RAW, which now supports the Canon EOS Rebel XT (EOS 350D/EOS Kiss Digital N), Nikon D2X, Olympus EVOLT E-300 and the Olympus C-7070 Wide Zoom. This new version of the Camera RAW plug-in replaces the original plug-in that was installed with Adobe Photoshop CS2 and Photoshop Elements 3.0 software. Adobe has also announced version 3.1 of its DNG Converter. DNG is a open standard that allows photographers to archive RAW files in a single format for easy cataloging and access in the future.

Adobe launches stock photo service

Following the launch of the Photographer's Directory, Adobe is expanding further with the announcement of a royalty-free image library, called Adobe Stock Photos. The service provides a single destination point to access stock photography from Getty Images, Jupitermedia and Digital Vision to name a few and offers around 230,000 images. Accessed through Adobe Bridge, Adobe Stock Photos helps designers select, browse, preview, organize, label, and drag-and-drop imagery directly from within Adobe Creative Suite 2. It's currently available in Adobe's Creative Suite 2 Premium and Standard editions, including CS2 versions of Photoshop, GoLive, InDesign and Illustrator.

Adobe acquires Macromedia
Adobe has announced an agreement to acquire Macromedia in an all-stock transaction valued at $3.4 billion. Graphics software giant, Adobe, will acquire the web and application development software company Macromedia at the close of fourth quarter 2005. A press release issued today said the two companies will provide customers with a 'more powerful set of solutions for creating, managing and delivering compelling content'. Bruce Chizen will continue as chief executive officer (CEO) and Shantanu Narayen will remain president and chief operating officer. Stephen Elop, president and CEO of Macromedia, will join Adobe as president of worldwide field operations.

Adobe Photoshop CS2
Adobe has launched the second version of its design, publishing and image editing program with Creative Suite 2, including Photoshop CS2. New tools include 'vanishing point', which allows you to clone, paint and transform in the perspective or your images, advanced noise reduction, optical lens correction, which corrects barrel and pincushion distortion as well as enhanced 16-bit editing. Another new feature, multi-image camera raw, allows you to process several raw images while you continue to work in Photoshop CS2. Adobe Photoshop CS2 is expected to begin shipping in late May and early June for around $599. Licensed users of any previous version of Photoshop can upgrade for $149.

Adobe to launch Photographers Directory
Adobe has announced the launch of a Photographers Directory, which will list professional photographers accessible from with Adobe's creative professional products. It will initially be available in North America, but over time will be extended to other countries. Adobe is working closely with the America Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) to produce the directory, which will be searchable by geographic location or by photographic specialty and will include portfolio imagery. Photographers who want to be a part of the directory should visit the ASMP website.

Adobe post Elements 3.0.1 update
Adobe has posted a minor update to Photoshop Elements for Windows (the Mac version does not need updating). Version 3.0.1 includes two changes; easier to download new creation templates for PhotoBooks, Calendars etc. and the ability to change the format of dates in the Photo Well from U.S. to European.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 review
Just posted! Our full review of Adobe Photoshop Elements 3 software. Elements 3 is designed to be the 'Photoshop for Everyone else' with a reduced range of features and removal of more professional Photoshop features such as CMYK conversion. Elements 3 appears to be a fairly significant step forward from Elements 2 and introduces lots of new features including RAW conversion and 16 bit/channel support. Adobe announces new format for raw files
Adobe Systems has today announced a new unified public format for raw digital camera files and a free software tool, Adobe DNG Converter, for translating raw photo formats into the new .DNG format, which is compliant with the Digital Negative Specification. There is no standard format for raw files, which vary between manufacturers and cameras. Digital Negative Specification will introduce a single format that can store information from a diverse range of cameras. An updated Adobe RAW File Converter adds support for DNG as well as several other cameras.
