Adobe updates

Adobe has released updates for many of its imaging software packages. Photoshop and Bridge CS3 receive bug fixes whilst Camera Raw 4.3 offers support for Canon's sRAW format and EOS-1DS Mark III as well as Nikon's latest D3 and D300 DSLRs and the Olympus E3. Lightroom 1.3 gains the same additional camera support and will now work with Mac OS X 10.5 aka 'Leopard'. Also available for download is an SDK - in preview status - allowing software developers to write export modules compatible with Lightroom. Download links after the click.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 6
Adobe has released version 6 of Photoshop Elements, improving ease of use and featuring new tools such as Photomerge to combine the best parts of several group shots. There is a new Quick Selection tool and three edit modes aimed at different skill levels. This latest release is available now for Windows - a Mac version will follow in early 2008 - for US$99.99 (upgrade $79.99) or $149.99 bundled with Adobe's Premiere Elements 4 video-editing software.

Adobe updates Lightroom and Camera Raw
Adobe has updated its Photoshop Lightroom workflow software and Camera Raw plug-in to support 14 new camera models. The updates also include improved noise-reduction and minor bug fixes when running on Windows Vista. Lightroom 1.2 is available as a free upgrade to existing users or may be purchased for US $299. Camera Raw 4.2 is free to download for users of Photoshop CS3, Photoshop Elements 4.0 for Mac and Elements 5.0 for Windows.

Adobe ships CS3 'Production Premium' and 'Master Collection' editions
Adobe has announced shipping of the English-language editions of Adobe Creative Suite 3 'Production Premium' and 'Master Collection', finalizing availability of the CS3 range. Customers requiring other translations have a little longer to wait however - German, French and Japanese releases are due to appear by mid-July. Comprising of six distinct editions aimed at different sectors of the imaging and production sectors, the Adobe Creative Suite 3 family is the most comprehensive package yet offered by the company.

Adobe updates Lightroom
Adobe has updated its Photoshop Lightroom workflow to version 1.1. Now including support for multiple computer workflows, assisting photographers with one more than one workstation, Adobe has also made improvements to the Noise Reduction and Sharpening algorithms. Windows Vista compatibility has arrived with certification for 32-bit editions and there is support for the latest major digital camera releases, including the Canon EOS-1D Mark III; Fuji FinePix S5 Pro; Nikon D40x; Olympus E-410 and SP-550 UZ; Ricoh Caplio GX 100; Sigma SD 14 and the Phase One H 20, H 25, P 20, P 21, P 25, P 30, and P 45.

Adobe Camera RAW 4.1 (now)
Adobe has today released version 4.1 of their Camera RAW plug-in for Photoshop CS3, Elements 4.01 (Mac) and Elements 5.0. This update adds support for the Canon EOS-1D Mark III, Fuji FinePix S5 Pro, Nikon D40X,  Olympus E-410, Olympus SP-550 UZ, Sigma SD14, Phase One H 20, Phase One H 25, Phase One P 20, Phase One P 21, Phase One P 25, Phase One P 30 and Phase One P 45. The update also includes a new version of Adobe DNG converter which can convert all ACR supported RAW formats to Adobe's "universal" DNG format. UPDATE: Now available for download.

Adobe updates Camera Raw and DNG Converter plug-ins
Adobe has released updates for its DNG Converter and Camera Raw applications, supporting Panasonic's recently-launched Lumix DMC-FZ8 camera. The updated plug-ins are available for Photoshop CS3, Elements 4.01 for Mac and Elements 5.0 for Windows systems.

Adobe Creative Suite branches out

Adobe has today unveiled its release plans for the next version of Creative Suite and it looks like they've been very busy indeed. The industry colossus now comes in an initially bewildering variety of different forms, each aimed at providing tools and workflows tailored to different strands of the imaging sector. Adobe is even releasing software to assist developers of software for handheld devices. Each of the 'premium' suites comes packaged with the new extended edition of Photoshop whilst purchasers of the 'standard' set will receive the 'plain vanilla' release. Available from April 2007, this round of releases looks set to cement Adobe's name as the industry leader for some time to come.

Lightzone for Adobe & Apple users
Light Crafts have announced that their LightZone editing software is to be made available at a discounted rate to users of Apple Aperture and Photoshop Lightroom. The package will also be compatible with Apple iPhoto. The software is said to employ a simpler and more natural approach to the retouching and enhancement of digital images, allowing artists every opportunity to express themselves effectively without being bogged down in technical jargon. Adobe to offer Photoshop CS3 in two flavours
PMA 2007: Adobe has today outlined its plans to offer two versions of Photoshop CS3 when it is released later this year. In addition to the standard edition, imaging professionals and enthusiasts will have the option of a yet more comprehensive tool in the form of an extended version. This is said to build on the already bulging feature set by adding 3-D and motion graphics oriented capabilities as well as allowing image measurement and analysis. Adobe say they are aiming to simplify imaging in the architectural, engineering, medical and scientific industries whilst continuing to cater to their core following of graphic and multimedia artists.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.0
After being in beta for some twelve months Adobe has today announced the availability of Photoshop Lightroom 1.0 'Final' at an introductory price of $199 (until April 30; after that $299). This new offloading, browsing, organizing and editing tool promises improved professional workflow for everyone including easy to use pick/reject features and tagging. In addition Lightroom leverages Adobe Camera Raw meaning it can read and display hundreds of Raw formats. Photoshop Lightroom should ship in mid-February.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Beta
As expected Adobe has today announced that a Beta version of Photoshop CS3 will be available for download tomorrow (15th December). To use CS3 you will need a valid CS2, Creative Suite 2, Creative Suite Production Studio, Design Bundle, Web Bundle or Video Bundle serial number. Without a serial number this Beta of CS3 will expire in just two days. As well as a range of improvements and user interface changes the biggest news with CS3 is Universal Binary support for Mac OS X, providing much performance relief to Mac Intel owners.

Adobe Camera Raw 3.6, DNG converter
Adobe has today removed the Beta suffix from Camera Raw and DNG converter version 3.6 and posted an update as just '3.6'. As previously reported (when 3.6 Beta was released) this new version of Adobe Camera Raw and DNG converter now support an additional 13 cameras including the Canon EOS 400D (Rebel XTi) and Nikon D80 as well as now the Olympus E-400 and SP-510 UZ. Adobe Camera RAW 3.6 Beta
We were fortunate enough to get an early copy for use in our Nikon D80 review, now Adobe has decided to release Camera RAW 3.6 Beta for public download. This new release of the much praised RAW conversion plug-in adds support for the Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi, Nikon D80, Pentax K100D, Panasonic DMC-LX2, Leica D-LUX 3 and Leica Digilux 3. The Beta is available for both Windows and Mac platforms.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom beta 4.0
Pre-Photokina 2006: Adobe Systems Inc today announced an update to Photoshop Lightroom beta with version 4.0. Available immediately for free download, version 4.0 unites product feature set for Windows and Mac platforms allowing a new way to import, manage and showcase large volumes of digital photos. Version 4.0 also adds improved workflow tools including a precision white balance option, new filters and search presets, and a new tone curve adjustment feature.

Adobe Camera Raw 3.5, DNG Converter
Adobe has today announced the latest version of the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in for Photoshop CS2 or Photoshop Elements 3.0 - 5.0. In addition they have also announced an update to their DNG Converter utility, designed to convert manufacturer specific Raw formats into the 'universal' DNG format. New cameras supported by Adobe Camera Raw 3.5 plug-in and DNG Converter include Nikon D2Xs, Kodak EasyShare P712, Panasonic DMC-FZ50 and DMC-L1, and Sony A100. The DNG Converter is now available as a Mac OS X Universal Binary which means it will run natively on Macintosh Intel-based computers.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0
Pre-Photokina 2006: Adobe has announced Photoshop Elements 5.0, the latest upgrade to its popular consumer photo editing software. As well as lots of new ways to share your photos, Elements 5.0 adds serveral new tools including Black and White conversion, Curves (at last!) and lens distortion correction.

Adobe LightRoom Beta for Windows
Up until today the Beta of Adobe's new digital photography application, Lightroom, was Mac only. Adobe has now posted the Windows beta of Lightroom free for anyone to download and test (note that if you haven't previously you will need to set up a userid at Adobe). Lightroom is a workflow and editting application which takes all of the useful photography related stuff from Photoshop and combines this with a sophisticated importation, browsing and organizational front-end.

Adobe buys RawShooter engine
In a brief statement Adobe has announced that it has purchased the 'technology assets' of Pixmantec, the Danish company behind the RawShooter raw workflow and conversion application. Adobe states that this acquisition "strengthens Adobe's leadership position in raw processing" and that that Pixmantec's raw processing technology will be integrated into Lightroom and other Adobe products. RawShooter Premium will be discontinued although the Essential edition will continue to be available and support for existing RawShooter customers will be available from Adobe.

Adobe CS2 and Camera Raw updates
Adobe has announced updates to its Camera Raw plug-in and Photoshop CS2. Camera Raw 3.4 adds support for the Canon EOS 30D, Olympus EVOLT 330 and Pentax *ist DL2 amongst others. The Photoshop 9.0.1 update fixes a number of problems present in version 9.0.
