Since we released the major upgrade of our product database pages four weeks ago, we have been hard at work fixing bugs, refining details and addressing your feedback. We’ve reached the point where all the major issues have been addressed and everything is running along smoothly. Our development team will be moving on to work on other new features, but first we wanted to give you an update on what’s been done over the past few weeks.

We’re pleased to announce a major upgrade of our product database, search, and camera compare pages. The wide-reaching changes bring a number of benefits, making it easier than ever to gain access to everything we know about a product. Two of the biggest changes are the addition of brand pages and the complete redesign of the individual product pages. These bring together all dpreview's content, along with images, user reviews and external resources in a single ‘dashboard.'
We've also spent 6 months enhancing our database so that it not only includes more detailed specifications for all the latest cameras but also gains an entry for virtually every currently available mainstream lens. In turn, this has also allowed us to make our product search function into a much more powerful tool for finding the camera or lens that provides the functions you want.
You'll find the new Camera and Lens search pages (and all the other new goodies) under the Product Database menu at the top of the site. This has been a major development project and, until we iron out all the creases, please consider it to be in beta status, and let us know if you spot any errors or problems.

Just Posted: comparison data for the Nikon D7000 and Pentax K-5. Alongside the Canon EOS 60D we've been testing a series of the other hot releases announced at this year's Photokina and two of the hottest are undoubtedly the 16MP mid-range DSLRs from Nikon and Pentax's. Following the hype and excitement about the D7000 and K-5, we thought it'd be nice to see what their output actually looks like so have added them to our list of cameras that can be compared. We've also included them in the Canon EOS 60D review to show them in context.

Now that the frenetic burst of activity around Photokina is over, we thought it was time to give you a quick update on what we're up to here at dpreview.com. We've recently added a few new beginners' guides to our Learn section, covering photo printing and pocket camcorders, and we're hard at work on our reviews of the hottest products from the show. We've also moved out of our London office and relocated to the United States, which has obviously caused a little disruption, but we've worked very hard to ensure the delay in publishing reviews is kept to a bare minimum. More after the link.

We've added a couple of quick new feaures to dpreview.com. First - as you'd struggle to miss if you're looking at this page - is a simple news tagging and filtering system. The other new thing is Polls - you should be able to see one running on the right hand side. In other news we've also picked the iPad winner from our recent site survey. Click through to read more.

US photographic trade body PMA and dpreview.com are conducting a survey looking for the views of dedicated amateur photographers. The five ten minute survey asks about your photographic use, the features you'd like to see in cameras and your use and experience of photo sharing sites and printing services (as well as helping us make dpreview a better place). It aims to get a clearer understanding of what committed non-professional photographers want from their cameras and related services and may even result in those things getting a bit better. Responses will be discussed at the forthcoming 6Sight conference. As a reward one lucky respondent will be sent a shiny new Apple iPad. Update: The survey will close 12:00 midnight Pacific time on Tuesday August 31st, so if you'd like your chance to win, time is running out!
