Continuing our series examining ultra-wideangle zooms, we take a look at Tokina's five year old offering in this popular category. Can it still compete with newer designs, or does its relatively narrow angle of view compared to 10mm zooms rule it out of serious contention?

This lens has recently been updated by the addition of a built-in autofocus motor for Nikon users, and new coatings for enhanced flare resistance; the revised version has 'II' added to the end of its name, and can be distinguished by a red stripe on the name plate. Unfortunately we weren't able to obtain the new version in time for review, but according to Tokina the two models are optically identical.
