Sigma has today announced a very interesting sounding lens, the new APO 50-150 mm F2.8 EX DC HSM. This lens promises to be compact (its DC notation means its designed for an APS-C size imaging circle) and fast (an F2.8 maximum aperture) with a good telephoto zoom range, HSM focusing motor and four SLD (Low Dispersion) glass elements to reduce chromatic aberrations. This lens on a 1.5x crop digital SLR (such as the Nikon D80) would provide an equivalent FOV of 75 to 225 mm.
