Nikon profit triples

Nikon's first half profit more than tripled as a result of demand for chipmaking equipment and digital cameras, Bloomberg reports. The manufacturer forecast profits of ¥3 billion ($28 million) (based on ¥2.05 billion ($19 million) last year) but blew that figure out of the water with a net income of ¥7.8 billion ($74 million). Profit is due to demand for LCDs, chipmaking equipment and digital cameras, such as digital SLR the D70.
