Olympus strips its E-M1 for our pleasure

This is an OM-D E-M1 stripped down to its bare essentials - a magnesium-alloy shell that's tough and light as a feather. How the finished camera ends up weighing so much more is a mystery - we think it must be all of those pixels. The E-M1 was one of our favorite cameras of 2013, and yours too - it's doing really well in our best product of 2013 readers' poll. Have you voted yet

Just a rumor I'm afraid. But it's always possible we'll be surprised.

I saw this coming but not as fast as it came to pass. Cameras as pure electronic gadgets, the only thing setting cameras apart being a lack of distractions (pure photography).

In the years I worked in the photo industry, I saw the PMA show go from a somewhat exciting, exclusive show like NAMM, where people wanted to get in but couldn't...to a show open to the public for paid admission...to a show that anybody could walk in, free...to a part of CES.

Canon may announce prosumer/pro grade items at the Feb. CP+ show in Japan or at Photokina, both of which are oriented to high-end imaging, as compared with the mass-market CES, which also shows TVs, video games, security systems, and a host of other non-photo/video equipment.

No News from Canon DLSRs? Is Canon dead? Come up with the 7D Mark II so Nikon finally launches the D400 or else I have to buy the Pentax K-3

Gonna side track a little and take notice about how marketing over the past few decades has went from the 'proud to work, contribute or be more effecitve' to an 'all about me' message. Thus we now have connective hardware and software that allows one to fulfill that purpose.

Selfish selfies aside. It's still awesome to consider how we can communicate in ways unimagined even a few short years ago. That the camera itself has been reduced to an appliance.

I think we should all just pause. Take a little break. And appreciate this exchange which is one of my favorite ever in a dpreview comment thread.

The D400 is a mythical beast said to possess tremendous power and speed, and therefore must never be released.
