Sigma has released updates for its SD1 and SD1 Merrill cameras - as well as for its Photo Pro software - to add support for the recently released 18-35 F1.8 DC HSM lens. On the camera side, the SD1 firmware update improves color in peripheral areas of the image when the aperture is wide open. As for software, Sigma's Photo Pro v5.5.3 is now optimized for Raw (X3F) images taken with the SD1 camera and 18-35 lens.

The updates will be available for download shortly on Sigma's support website.

Full change log:

1. SD1 & SD1 Merrill (Ver1.11 / Ver1.06) firmware update:

When it is used with the 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM, it refines the colors in peripheral areas of the images taken at or around aperture of F1.8.

2. SIGMA Photo Pro Ver5.5.3

(Win)

When the image is taken with the combination of the 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM and SD1 or SD1 Merrill, the development of the image from RAW data (X3F file) is optimized with this updated version.

(Mac)

When the image is taken with the combination of the 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM and SD1 or SD1 Merrill, the development of the image from RAW data (X3F file) is optimized with this updated version.

It corrects the phenomenon that the review window in SIGMA Photo Pro keeps displaying the first picture while taking different images via SIGMA Capture Pro.

Unfortunately this photography site is a Bayer site, everyone complain about mobile photography shouldnt be here (which I dont agree) but no complains about Bayer-only reviews. I suspect this is an commercial issue...Faveon may have disadvantages but superior one every beginer or photographer should learn about it and how superior colours affect your photos like a painter (3D feel)

I'm very interested in buying a Sigma camera because of its Foveon sensor... but I'm afraid the system isn't well supported or popular enough to ensure I'll always have access to updates, accessories and easy repair options. The unpopularity of the system is what keeps me from investing in it. So, it's good to see news that these cameras are actually supported. But what about the other SD models?

they all work perfectly until they die. like all other brands. don't worry, make great photos.
nothing will last forever. nothing.
but: I have been using Sigma cams for years without any problems. I mean moaners and whiners will have problems with everything.

Is the SD15 no longer supported, or did it not need this fix?
