Site update: two new forums

By dpreview staff on Oct 1, 2013 at 18:33 GMT

Just a quick update on a couple of new forums we've added over the weekend. The first is Feedback and Suggestionsa place for your questions, feedback and suggestions for the DPReview team (both technical and editorial). We hope this will be a more efficient and more effective method than the feedback form / email system we had previously, and will ensure we don't miss bugs, suggestions and feedback that until now has been spread over dozens of forums.

The second new forum is Photographic Science and Technology: a home for those wishing to discuss  advanced technical matters related to imaging science outside the brand-specific forums. It's also intended to be the place for less technically-minded readers to pose questions of our community's smartest eggheads. If you have any suggestions for other new forums DPReview is crying out for, you now know where to post them...

I love the science forum already, but perhaps it should be renamed the Bob n Bustard forum?

The Feedback and Suggestions forums is a great idea. It gives you a chance to see what others think of suggestions / ideas that would normally never see daylight.

That being said, that newly created forum already has little yellow lock icons popping up like spring dandelions on a trailer park lawn. :)

Well done. I've been calling for a feedback forum on numerous occasions over the past few years, I really think you need it. I think it will sometimes be hard reading for you, but ultimately will lead to significant improvements as you get a better handle on users issues.

I hope the Feedback and Suggestions forum will be a location to redirect all of the many off-topic comments than pollute discussions of cameras and lenses currently. It's gotten so bad it's of little value to sift through comments for valuable information. It would be great if there are moderators looking for flaming, also consider working to keep comments 'on topic.'

Why is there no 'display & monitor' section? Where do we judge and retouch our work on..? Right, on a monitor. And where do we talk here about displays and monitors.........

Right now most discussion on that subject is in PC and Mac forums.

It depends on how you define 'smartest'. I felt nauseated after visiting science and technology forum for couple of days. Small bunch of know-it-all guys competing with each other for showing off their 'knowledge' and sometimes patting each other's back. Never lost my interest in anything so fast in my life.

But good effort on your part. Hope, others find it useful.

Excellent.

Since you've fixed the iPad bugs and cracked down on flamers, I've actually enjoyed coming here again.

So, are we to assume there's now also a DPR drone (or the moderators, perhaps) working to exile...ahem, I mean properly situate...complaints/suggestions posts and "technical" posts to their respective forums now? Looks like some work has already been done there....

Perhaps you can come up with a good menu system where the forum choices are arrayed into a nice page.

Some people want to zero in on their favorite forum while others may browse and see what interests them.

HTML challenge.

When I read "2 new forums" I guessed one of them might be a special extra forum for Pascal Riben ;-)

Why don't you create a dedicated forum to discuss DoF equivalence with crop sensors? And then somehow, when people go in there to post, sort of lock the door so they're all trapped inside and can't get out.

Keep maintaining that sense of humor, Simon.
I particularly loved the forum description, as well:
Photographic Science and Technology
the place to discuss the finer details of sensor design, quantum efficiency and demosaicing, and to argue about the most technically accurate definition of 'exposure'.

I like it .

The suggestions and feed back could/will be very entertaining though. :)

The Science and Tech forum. Is a great Idea.
It also give the equivalence people some where to go play.

Kudos DPR. Especially "feedback and suggestions." This improves collaboration that will benefit members and DPR.
