Phase One makes Capture One 7.1.4 available

Phase One has released the latest version of its Raw processing software, Capture One 7.1.4. This update offers support for more cameras and lenses, and also promises improved performance when working with large numbers of photos. With this version, Capture One 7 now supports the Sony Cyber-shot RX100 II, Fujifilm X-M1 and Olympus E-P5 among others, and adds 32 new lens profiles.

Phase One Releases Capture One 7.1.4

COPENHAGEN, September 17, 2013 – Phase One today released Capture One 7.1.4, a software update that includes support for new cameras and new lens profiles as well as stability and performance improvements, including:

• New camera support for Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1R and DSC-RX100 II, Fujifilm X-M1, Olympus E-P5 and Richo GR camera models
• Tethered support for Nikon D7100 and D5200 cameras
• Spot removal tool in Capture One Express 7.1.4

With this release, Capture One now effectively supports more than 300 different camera models from leading vendors including Canon, Epson, Fujifilm, Konica Minolta, Leica, Mamiya Leaf, Nikon, Panasonic, Phase One, Pentax, Ricoh, Samsung, and Sony.

This release also adds 32 new lens profiles, primarily for Mamiya, Nikon and Pentax lenses. As of today, Capture One supports more than 150 different lens profiles. Phase One is focused on ensuring the highest quality for its available lens profiles. Each is developed for all zoom and focus ranges through a program of extensive field testing with professional photographers and a rigorous Phase One quality assurance process.

Other features include faster performance when working with larger catalogs. And Capture One Pro 7 now offers a beta version importer for catalogs from other image editors on the Windows platform.

Pricing and Availability

Capture One 7.1.4 is a free update for all existing customers of Capture One 7. For new customers, Capture One Pro 7 is priced at 299 USD / 229 EUR and Capture One Express 7 is priced at 99 USD / 69 EUR.

How does it compare to DxO Optics Pro 8 re. image quality rendering?

DxO vs C1 : DxO is unbeatable concerning lens correction but image rendering is, IMHO, far from the one you can achieve with C1. C1 is also easier and faster to use, DxO (Pro version !) is furnished with a huge amount of corrections and the way they process photos are not the same at all as C1 do. DxO keep with devotion since a long time some curious "behaviours" which are no so fine.
C1 is more competing with LR, both work with catalog but C1 also handle simple photo directories. I'm not sure that one can tell "this soft or this one is the best..", it's useful to try before you decide. Easy because all these softs can be downloaded and tried !
From my point of view and for my use, C1 is a very very good solution with which you can do all your workflow process and get Pro results. Price ? Not cheap for the Pro version but it's worth, really !!

Thank you for your post. I am currently battling with the 2 and LR5 as well. If only DxO had better colour & WB rendering ..

@Rudivan5 : you're right, color rendering of DxO and white balance is often a question to discuss about. Try to crop a picture and then compare with previous state just by clicking on image..! The manner they remove dust spots should be changed too : in some cases you don't see them on original non processed image but only on adjusted/modified image. But you'll have to remove them from initial image. Good luck !

Another important point to mention, for some users who own several PC's : license with DxO is installed almost forever on a specific computer. When reinstalling or buying a new system you've to contact service to transfer license. With C1 you do it yourself on PhaseOne site.. the best license management available !
So you can't switch from one computer to another quickly, what is possible with C1.

I do not understand why the need to release new s/w version each time support added for a new camera? Why not use DLL or a plug-inn? I am really glad C1 now supports "300 different camera models" 298 of which I will never need... And it's not only C1 but also all the rest...

If you have bug-fix - release it as a bug-fix, if the u/g is only support for a camera I do not use - don't bother me..

yes they add new camera support.. BUT the main thing is possibility (new but still beta version) of importing LR catalogs under windows OS ! Previous release had already this feature under OS X (also beta).
Sure that C1 is now competing with LR and attacking head-on.
NB : DxO and Adobe too support hundreds of lens you probably will never use : a common thing ? So what ?

That's BACK in the Express version - it was in 6 Express.

Which begs the question - why did they take it out o7 7 Express in the first place?

When you download a trial version, they usually send you some interesting discount offers. On the other hand: this is the only software that gave me the image quality I liked. So, for me, it's worth it's price.

It is a very great software. I have used it since version 6.x and I love it. Very fine controls and tuning. A perfect companion for Photoshop. But in some cases, like color control, I find it actually even more powerful :-)

Dear Don B.,
Photoshop is to me the best solution for image enhancement and optimization. For image capture you need indeed a dedicated and stand alone solution. This is how it works in the real life. Putting everything together will be not possible. Asking Leaf/PhaseOne to make a replica and integrate their capture solution into a Photoshop like is just too much. And the same to Adobe. Asking Adobe doing that, it is not their focus.
I find in my workflow a very stable way. First step I use Capture One and second step in Photoshop. I get the best from the 2 worlds without much hassle.
