Shooting Goðafoss: Erez Marom takes us behind the picture

In the second in a series of articles, landscape photographer Erez Marom takes us through the process of getting his striking shot of Goðafoss - the 'waterfall of the gods' in Northern Iceland. Dodging and burning has been done since Ansel Adams and earlier. And yet to me, selective processing to PARTS of a photographic image strikes me as dishonest - you just didn't have the light you wanted, too bad. Why not just paint? Just my opinion.

Photography is art. You can manipulate as much as you want to create your personal reality. Just "click-clack" does not capture the emotions you had when being at the scene. My comment to this picture is: Dear Erez, you forgot to "delete" that ass with his tripod in the background! Really anoying.

Having been there myself several times I have had to "remove" quite some disturbing asses :-)

Your basically calling artist that create photographs with PP as dishonest. Where do u draw the line then. Using ND filters would also be considered "dishonest" There is no way for a camera to capture what one sees with the naked eye. The camera does not have the dynamic range to capture dark foregrounds and light backgrounds without some type of PP. Impossible!!

Erez: Odd how these "Experts" who know how to take a "Real" photograph never seem have any examples in their galleries? I worked some from our trip and posted, maybe some feedback if you have a moment? All I know is I was lucky to actually be at these incredible places, and love some of the captures I got, and am improving all the time with practice and experience (and more capable equipment). I enjoy them that is all the matters. If one of these "Experts" does not like them, then hey, they can feel perfectly free to... well take a guess. If you can bring some of this beauty into someones life with your photos, you have done well. (My mom likes them, anyway...)
