Pentax releases new firmware for Q and Q10

Pentax has announced firmware updates to two of its tiny Q-series interchangeable lens cameras, the original Q and last year's Q10. Firmware version 1.13 for the Q and 1.02 for the Q10 add support for the PENTAX-07 Mount Shield Lens, and bring 'improved stability for general performance'. I updated and now when every time I start up the date/time menu has reverted to initial set up even though I have set it several times. Seems to be a bug in 1.1.3 as far as I can tell. Maybe this would be better to report is some Q forum.

For which Q? On my original Q, time and date work fine after each start up. No issues so far ...

Oh. Thanks. It was me, as usual. I must have forgotten to press the set button on one of the changes and every other setting for date/time reverted to fault.

Updated the Q with this firmware. One obvious notice is that camera is blazingly fast focusing, and focus peaking seems to work even nicer.
A support for a model long discontinued and which already has 2 successors — thank you Pentax!

Two questions:
- Did you upgrade from the original FW or the previous version?
- How fast is "blazingly" fast? Is it as fast a current Micro 4/3 camera with the current 14-42 kit lens? Please provide a reliable comparison.

I think it's really great for Pentax users that the firmware has been upgraded and that DPR has the good courtesy to let people know.

Seeing as DPR does not actually encourage complaints but sometimes actually read these posts, I'm going to take this opportunity to ask them why, in the same spirit as having provided this firmware news, they haven't been troubled to advise owners of Canon's EOS M that there is not just a minor update out recently, but a major significant update that makes a previously crippled camera into a decent contender.

So DPR - one not have a more consistent policy regarding the update news you post on your website?

Two things -

DPR did report on the new firmware when it was announced, rather than when it was made available.

Canon didn't issue a press release when it was available, again only when it was announced.

Pentax "Q" is a tiny high quality interchangeable lens camera with a compact size sensor. It can take adapters for almost all makes of lens making it extremely versatile. With a 300 mm prime it can produce astounding images at a focal length equivalent of around 1720mm.
