Samsung has released firmware version 1.2 for its NX300 interchangeable lens camera. The biggest claimed improvement is to autofocus, though Samsung has not disclosed what kind of improvement to expect. The update also adds new touchscreen features, a microphone sensitivity adjustment feature, auto image rotation, and a minimum shutter speed for Auto ISO. Several bugs are also fixed.

Firmware v1.2 for Samsung NX300

  • Adding Multi-touch zoom, double tap zoom functions
  • Adding Minimum shutter speed settting function (ISO Auto in P or A mode)
  • Adding AF point moving function without focusing in Touch AF
  • Adding Touch screen on/off menu (Even touch off, playback mode and menu selection is worked by touch.)
  • Adding guide message off menu during mode change
  • Adding MIC sensitivity level adjustment menu
  • Adding MENU, FN button display off mode in display mode
  • Fixing exposure error in SmartRange+ mode
  • Adding auto rotate function
  • Improving AF quality
  • Improving SD card compatibility
  • Adding interfaces for new Lens line up
  • Improving that some video player does not play sound on end parts of video clip in PC

There are many things that could still be improved:

- raw continuous shooting (limited to 4/5 pics in a row). Please bring this at least to the level of nx200 (8 pics) or better.
- there seems to be some nr applied in iso 1600 to 3200 even when nr is off. Please investigate on this.
- video: preview of 16:9, but above all, focus peaking and focus tracking in video! Caf is dumb where you can have those features!
- please allow assigning the smart share button to other functions, like raw+ switching.
- if possible increase the intensity of focus peaking: even in high it's sometimes barely visible.
- please allow moving also raw files via wifi, and not only jpg.
- with legacy lenses or manual focus, please allow to magnify any part of the screen by touching it. At that point, focus peaking + magnification could become a killer feature and a big selling point for nx300.

Samsung did a good job with their FW Update!

But you are absolutely right - these are very interesting points.
If Samsung would be able to fix/add these it would be awesome and nobody could complain anything (except missing (removable) EVF)!
Go on Samsung!

I hope some of Samsung representatives read the related treads on this site.

Well-done firmware at last. Most annoying problems are solved. Hope focus peaking in video will be soon.

I have NX200, which in many facets is a similar camera. While it has subpar low-light AF performance, Samsung still does not issue an update. In the same time it vividly supports the new models. A really honest approach I would say...

I also own a nx200 and the nx300 is a big (huge) step forward, imo.

I feel vindicated when I read this. I ditched my NX 11 for an OMD. Why? The AF is atrocious - it hunts, doesn't fully focus, nor lock on - just, dinosaur like when compared to other cameras like Lumix and Olympus. I'm waiting for another generation or 2 in Samsung camreas, when they get it right, then I'll be able to use all those lenses I invested in.

The nx300 is very fast focusing, especially with 18-55 and 45mm lenses.

My NX100 and 200 weren't like that. I don't think any camera within the past few years would have been a viable product if it behaved that way or 'didn't fully focus or lock on'. You couldn't take any pictures?!

What does that mean: "Adding interfaces for new Lens line up"?

When i tested the NX300 and the NEX-6 in the store, the nex-6 auto-focused a lot faster. Does the NX-300 AF as fast as the NEX-6 now? They both have hybrid AF.

In my experience the nx300 is faster focusing (with 18-55 kit lens) than nex6 with kit. Other lenses are slower (30mm, 60mm and 85mm).

I assume that "adding guide menu off...." is to get rid of the slides when changing modes?

Get in! It shows they are listening. Not necccesarily conforming, and good for them. But listening, and acting. Samsung, on the map.

Could be, probaly is the 10mm. when itbsaid "lineup" that made it sound more like a suite of lenses. but probably more likely a translation thing.

Yep, I guess so...unless the fw is already ready for incoming lenses, but I hope there will be further fws in the meanwhile!

I wish Panasonic would add a minimum shutter speed setting for Auto ISO for their cameras.
