Aviary has announced a significant update to its Android photo editing app. Version 3.0 of Photo Editor by Aviary introduces a sleeker interface, modifications to some existing editing tools and availability of new filters previously only on the iOS version of the app. Android users updating to this latest version will also save a little space on their devices - the app's file size has been reduced by 10%.

Included in this update is a re-designed Enhance tool, now with settings to tweak sharpness, lighting and color separately. Aviary also provides a number of add-ons for purchase within the app like filter packs and stickers. With this update, a Woodland Effects pack becomes available to Android users, previously only available on the iOS version of the app. The existing Focus tool that creates a tilt-shift-type effect by blurring user-selected parts of a photo has also been updated for an improved user experience, according to Aviary's blog.

Getting its start as a plug-in for other Android photo applications, the Photo Editor by Aviary spun off as a standalone app and provides basic editing tools and filters. Aviary's photo editing tools are still used within partner applications like Flickr and Tango. The photo editor app is also available for those running iOS or Windows.

If this is good enough, I can remove photoshop from my phone. Just say no.

For me Snapseed is the most useful Android app on the run under deadline.
Second in line for quick batch processing is PerfectlyClear.
