DxOMark investigates lenses for the Nikon D600

Our friends and collaborators over at DxOMark have recently been looking into how lenses score on specific cameras, and the latest model they've examined is the Nikon D600. In a three-part article published at the end of last week, they investigate how 70 lenses from Carl Zeiss, Nikon, Samyang, Sigma, Tamron and Tokina measure up on the D600's 24MP full frame sensor. if only I could a afford a D600.. let alone a D800. However, the DxO 'test' showed that the pixel pitch of the D600 is already stretching the capabilities of most lenses and as such the even smaller pixel pitch of the D800 and the more affordable D7100/D5200 and even the D3200 is really tough on almost all but the best lenses out there.

I'm so happy, I'm glad I bought only FX primes when I had a DX cam, and now i have my D600 it's nice to know my investment in the 28mm f2.8D, 50mm f1.4G and 85mm f1.8G was a good one. (All preowned, all from eBay and all in mint condition) Happy, happy, happy :)

DXO's lens testing for the D600 reads like the who's who of every Nikon lens from $1200-$3000 and more... which is about as useful for me as a flat tire. I ain't shellin out 1000's of dollars on lenses for the most reasonably price FX camera in their lineup. Why didn't they test some of the more reasonably prices lenses that me and the rest of the world can afford?... :P

I own several of the lower priced Nikon lenses (like the 70-300 ED-VR) that I think work quite well on my D600... ;)

as always , it is useless, DXO should only do DXO sensor ranking , they do not know much about lenses.
SLRgear.com and lenstip.com are much better lens testing sites.

I'm extremely happy with the Nikon 28 f/1.8G, 85 f/1.8G and the 70-200 f/4 VR, three of the best lenses I've ever owned. All are extremely sharp with excellent color/contrast that you'd expect from a modern Nikkor.

And all three were on the DxOMark's D800 Suggested Lenses, so I knew we'd see them on this series of recommendations.

I'm very happy with the 35mm F/2 AF-D and the 50mm F/1.8G on my D600.

The 35mm/2 is a tiny gem of a lens! It has it's flaws, but there's just nothing that replaces it. It's the smallest lens I own for Nikon, and it's one of my favorite.

I prefer the 1.4G for a 50mm though. I find that it has the least amount of LoCA of all the Nikon AF 50s and the most round/pleasing bokeh stopped down. In fact, bad bokeh is the Achilles heel of the above 35mm. Stopped down it have very obvious seven sided bokeh on point lights. A bit distracting.

I found that of the 50mm's, including the older F/1.4 AF-D, the F/1.8 was sharper at its widest aperture and sharper at F/1.8 than the others. Hence my choice of the F/1.8. And yes, I really enjoy using the 35mm F/2 as well. :)

Really amazing job of DxO.
I had a thought for others than merely D600-Users. So I've compiled every DxO Lens-test on one single Excel-File. Now, everyone, can filter with the camera of his choice.

Too bad they didn't test the NEW Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G-ED lens. The one tested is the OLD version. The new lens is amazingly good and relatively affordable.
