Fujifilm has announced the availability of new firmware for its X100S fixed-lens compact camera. Firmware version 1.02 corrects an issue where the frameline brightness in the camera's viewfinder did not automatically adjust at ISO sensitivity settings of 1600 and higher. Fujifilm has also issued firmware updates for its Z2000EXR, HS50EXR, F820EXR and F900EXR compacts, which can be found via the 'download drivers and software' section of Fujifilm's support pages.

  • The phenomenon is fixed that the brightness of the OVF bright frame doesn't change according to a surrounding brightness in case of ISO 1600 and higher.

That a camera isn't perfect can hardly be called a bug. No camera is perfect. I would say that Fuji tries really hard to make the perfect camera, so complaining about what it can and can't do seems rather narrow sighted to me. You are free to choose whatever camera that seems to fit your every photographic need. It doesn't have to be a Fuji if it lacks functions you need.

And no, I do not own a Fuji camera ... yet.

It's not as simple as Fuji's cameras not being perfect, and unlike you I've owned a few, used many. There is something to be said about using/evaluating the product then having an opinion vs. not having owned/used the product and having one. Fuji is a brilliant company, and maybe they are trying to please too many at once with their designs.

That can be just as much of a problem as not listening to your user base. A good camera design requires balance, knowing what and who to prioritize for that particular design.

Fuji has too many bugs in their designs. Lots of promise, lots of hope, lots of genius... but at the end of the day I'm waiting till they can sort their designs properly before hitting the market. Some designs do, which makes me wonder. Their highest end cameras seem to have the most issues.

It would really help if you'd come up with a few examples. It all remains a bit fluffy and floaty like this...

Please relesase software to allow camera to take a minimum of 3 exposures in
2 EV steps which is the strict minimum for HDR photography. my 3 year old Pentax can do up to 5 exposures with +/- 2 EV steps

why did you buy a camera that you know doesn't do what you want it to do?

Come on, riveredger, he/she is only asking for some additional functionality. That doesn't mean the person is not happy with it.

Mine had the odd green screen of death with the old firmware and with the new 1.02 too. A lot of others have also had this problem so I can only assume it's a firmware bug yet to be fixed.
It's now the official name for the bug. "GREEN SCREEN OF DEATH"
I have contacted Fuji but had no reply as of yet.

Does have any chance Fuji release a new firmware to my old X100 with some improvements from X100s?

Fuji, please release a firmware so the multiple exposure mode can produce RAF files (like the X-PRO1). I was very disappointed to learn my X100S will only produce JPEG files when using the multiple exposure mode.

Multi exposure should always be available in raw, pity that more makers overlook this key desire. The K5 can take 9 shots on one raw file combined. If you do tripod work, this makes for noiseless raw files on long exposures for astrophotography or landscapes. It's simply brilliant.

Glad that they are updating the firmware. Hopefully they will continue to improve the X100s' functionality and flexibility.

I outlined most of the issues I had with my X100s in my full review here: http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3482733
