Sony Japan has launched the AKA-DM1 camera harness to mount the company's latest line of action cams on man's best friend. Priced at ¥5,250 (approximately $50), this harness fits bigger-framed dogs that weigh at least 15 kgs and have a belly circumference of 50cms - 80cms.

An illustration in Sony Japan's product page shows how you can mount the camera on your dog.

The company's line-up of action cameras, including the Wi-Fi enabled HDR-AS15 full HD rugged action cam that was released in August 2012, are tiny and weigh around 90 gms each, making sure you wont have the RSPCA hunting you down.

There is nothing new about this. Almost 100 years ago cameras were attached to carrier pigeons to get shots over the enemy lines.

I notice that gives support to reverse. Now we got a Dog Street videographer or photographer, I would like to make a time-lapse with this system, it should be interesting! And with some engineering, we could put a GoPro.

Dogs might prefer iPooch smart phones, and some pet lovers might spend a fortune to have a phone-camera to stay in touch with Fido while away.

A camera mounted on the back will snare in brush or get bent or tilted when the dog rolls in whatever compost pleases its nose. Any video might be rather shakey. To teach a dog to use a tripod seems unlikely. Put dogs in charge of a photo contest, and the winners would be shots of RAW stuff humans may not consider savory.

A camera mounted on the head of a cameloid might yield interesting footage, since they keep their heads so steady and erect.

I'd gladly spend $50 to get some fun dog videos, but another $240 for the camera? Not so much.

I hung my gopro cam from the dog tag UNDER it's neck, and got some great footage when running - only trouble was, it swayed from side to side too much.... but when the dog lay down, I got some great shots with the grass at bottom of frame, and HUGE tongue hanging down at top of frame!

Harness on top not very practical, because if dog rolls over, whooops, there, goes the camera!

My dog rolls any old time it feels like to. So only if a camera can be mounted on it's forehead then it might work. But surely not if camera is on it's back.

Japanese iPhone shutter sound cannot be switched off, same reason this should not be allowed in crowded area.

I think you just give me an idea to make some buck. LOL

Seriously thought, this harness is $50, not the cam. That's quite expensive for something without a standard tripod mount.

You can attach a standard tripod mount onto one of their click-in mounts

The dog would video every fire hydrant and tree that he have urinated and mark as territory.
