Vision Research posts high-speed 4k video with Phantom Flex4K at 1000fps

High speed camera maker Vision Research has put together its first footage with the forthcoming Phantom Flex4K video camera. Capable of capturing up to 1000 fps at 4K resolution, the Flex4K features a 10MP Super-35 sensor, records either RAW or compressed footage and will come in PL, Canon EF and Nikon F/G mounts. For this video, NYC-based cinematographer Greg Wilson and director Brendan Bellomo captured the Hebron and Glastonbury Connecticut Fire Departments in action, highlighting the camera's slow motion capabilities.

Good enough for newspaper sports photographers to catch all possible moments and send a few million frames to the photo editor to choose from...

About the fire fighting technique: splashing water on the flames??? Have they never heard about minimum water high pressure spray method, minimizing the water damage (often worse than fire damage).

the way the structure looks in the outside , water damage is the least of your problems... This will make an excellent training video, our department is currently emphasizing not just learning from accidents and mistakes but also learning and awareness of "almost or near"accidents and mistakes....

nothing else to be expected with htis equipment and the budget for the production.

For me personally at this moment I give a damn on professional 4k video.
I would love to buy a FHD camcorder that can capture up to 120 or better 240 fps.

Wonderful, these days super slow-mo is about still angles of bicycles in mid air or random things blowing up, and all very uncreative and boring (and yet half the world sits through them like that's all there is). Here we go, real glorious use of high speed capture creating marvelous imagery, feels unreal and makes me want to go all out slow-mo too

Having access to a rare situation and having a vast production team =/= being creative

limitation is overcome with creativity, and that's what made the original Star Wars so great, the team were creative with everything they did and were initially on a shoe string budget with many problems.

That said though I didn't say this video was creative, but certainly isn't bland like a single angle shot of the whole scenario. Still takes the person behind the camera to get the right angles and composition to capture the worthy moments in an interesting way to the viewer. They may have access to grand resources and much talent, but who knows, did they have to be creative taking such equipment into a burning house, to get the pans up close, did someone put together a custom rig? Just because you have all the gear and people doesn't mean everything goes as planned, almost always there's a limitation or issue to overcome.

NHK pilot 8k broadcast is scheduled before the 2016 games.
think some cameras should be capable of 240 fps.
2024 should see them in mass prodution consumer products.

Capable of 1000fps... but I think this video was a fraction of that.
I'd love to see it at full throttle, recorded at 1Kfps, and played back at 60p... that would be real slow motion... and then played back in realtime speed, so as to get a comparison, to fully appreciate the capabilities.

Nowadays many things have become possible; often it's more about the readiness to invest in technology when it still is in its early stages.

More than the readiness to invest, it's more about the readiness to be disappointed when you throw in 10~100K into a camera system that becomes obsolete 6 months later with even further advancements that trump your own system. Right now is the worst time to be making decisions on what to invest in next, the kid next door might be able to shoot his home videos with the latest and coolest camera, but wait a while and the next bigger and better version is out, and he won't be able to afford any of it....

but this is most certainly a fully electronic shutter.

today's cameras with CMOS sensors use "rolling shutter" for videos which causes some distortion with fast moving object or when you moving fast the camera, that's somehow nasty especially for professional use, that problem can be solved with "global shutter"
