Nikon updates firmware for D600, D800, D4, D3s, D3x, D3, D7000, D3200

Nikon has posted firmware updates for a number of its DSLRs. Updates for the D600, D800, D4, D3s, D3x, D3, D7000 and D3200 include support for the AF-S Nikkor 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR lens. The D600 and D800 see an improvement to the subject tracking performance in continuous autofocus mode when shooting using the optical viewfinder. And the D600 can now deliver 100% video scene coverage via HDMI output. The updates are available for immediate download from Nikon's website. See below for a full list of feature updates and bug fixes, as well as links to Nikon’s site for downloads.

Nikon D600 firmware - C: 1.01

Support for the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR has been added.
Subject tracking performance in AF-C (continuous-servo autofocus) autofocus mode with framing using the viewfinder has been improved.
Frame output size has been changed from 95% to 100% when movie live view display is changed to "Information off" and an HDMI-compatible device is connected.
An issue that caused the right edges of images to be somewhat white when captured at an Image area setting of DX (24x16) 1.5x withActive D-Lighting set to Off has been resolved.
When the camera's shutter-release button was pressed repeatedly for uninterrupted shooting with the "Record to:" option in Camera Control Pro 2's Storage tab set to "PC+CARD", the camera would stop responding with displaying "Err" in its control panel. This issue has been resolved.
In some very rare cases, colors would change with shooting when white balance was set to a specific color temperature, as with Preset manual or Choose color temp. This issue has been resolved.

Nikon D800 firmware - A: 1.01 / B:1.02

Support for the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR has been added.
Subject tracking performance in AF-C (continuous-servo autofocus) autofocus mode with framing using the viewfinder has been improved.
Gamut for Adobe RGB images displayed in the camera's monitor has been changed. This enables more vivid display of images.
With live view photography in [M] (Manual) exposure mode, exposure preview was always on. This issue has been resolved.
In some very rare cases when certain memory cards were used, movie recording would stop, even when the time remaining display indicated remaining recording time. This issue has been resolved.
With shooting at an image quality setting of TIFF (RGB) and an image size setting of Small, the right edge of images contained a purple line. This issue has been resolved.
In some rare cases, images recorded in JPEG format could not be opened by some software applications. This issue has been resolved.
In some very rare cases, colors would change with shooting when white balance was set to a specific color temperature, as with Preset manual or Choose color temp. This issue has been resolved.

Nikon D4 Firmware Update A 1.05, B 1.03

Support for the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR has been added.
Auto white balance performance has been improved.
Images are sharper and appear more three dimensional.
With live view photography in [M] (Manual) exposure mode, exposure preview was always on. This issue has been resolved.
With shooting at an image quality setting of TIFF (RGB) and an image size setting of Small, the right edge of images contained a purple line. This issue has been resolved.
In some rare cases, images recorded in JPEG format could not be opened by some software applications. This issue has been resolved.
In some very rare cases, colours would change with shooting when white balance was set to a specific colour temperature, as with Preset manual or Choose color temp. This issue has been resolved.

Nikon D3200 Firmware Update C 1.01

The following functions have been changed with shooting using the Wireless Mobile Utility.
- When the camera's shooting mode is set to Auto or Auto (flash off), it now operates in Auto or Auto (flash off) mode. Prior to this upgrade, the camera functioned in [P] (Programmed auto) exposure mode.
- Live view can now be initiated even when the camera is set to "Auto" or "No flash" in GUIDE mode.
In some very rare cases when certain memory cards were used, movie recording would stop, even when the time remaining display indicated remaining recording time. This issue has been resolved.
In some very rare cases, colours would change with shooting when white balance was set to a specific colour temperature, as with Preset manual or Incandescent. This issue has been resolved.

I have a D4 and am happy to be able to use my 3d glasses now to get better viewing from its images... :)

Seriously, more three dimensional? If the already great white balance is further improved that would be great and any improvement in the already great iq is fine as well...but the hyperbole on this is a bit much.

Wow - I thought Nikon has forgotten about their prehistoric D3 :) Gonna flash it tomorrow - it's not that I have issues with the current firmware, but just for the sake of novelty :)

As a D3200 owner, I was hoping for exposure bracketing, which it unfortunately lacks. Improved auto-WB and metering is always welcome too.

D800:The Green Tint on my LCD IS GONE!...FINALLY!(I didn't worry about it too much before knowing Nikon would eventually fix it)

Continuous AF Tracking seems more accurate and doesn't hop around like before.

No, the green tint is still there,bit less maybe ,but it´s still there, try copying the same pic into a CF card and put it in your older nikons (d300, 700 or even the new d600) and look side by side, you´ll see the difference .
it´s still the worst monitor on any nikon to date, regarding the colour reproduction.

the lens still stops down

Try pressing OK-button when in live view for to switch between exposure preview on/off.

The OK button does not prevent the lens from being permanently stopped down in Lifeview. We still have to open and close the aperture manually before and after focusing manually in A and M. Lifeview AF also works stopped down. And still no statement from Nikon, of course - I asked.

I laud Nikon's effort to explain what's in their firmware updates.

All Pentax would say is a generic "fixed stability issues and improved general performance"

Forget you Nikon. You lost me with the green screen and poor autofocus of the d800! My 5d mark III is faster, better af, better colors, and the LCD is beautiful.

I was really hoping for 3+ EV bracketing for HDR on the D800, which should be really easy to add. 1 EV bracketing just isn't that useful when you have ~14 EV of dynamic range to work with at native ISO.

I just did a quick test on the D4 of video modes in FX and the 2.7 crop factor which video is premium & sharp. The FX mode has been soft but it looks sharp and as crisp as the 2.7 crop with the new firmware update. Can anyone confirm this? Many thanks!

Nikon D600: Aperture control in LiveView mode. Can someone check if it was actually fixed? Maybe Nikon didn't mentioned it in the release notes.

I just installed the update on my D600. Yes, there is now aperture control in LiveView, but only in still photos, not in video. Boo!

I was hoping for some functional updates to the D7000 - if I had the 800 f/5.6, I probably wouldn't be shooting a D7000.
