Google pulls plug on desktop version of Snapseed

I'm just waiting for the announcement some day in the (not so far?) future that due to "focusing our efforts" Google pulls the plug on Android or dumps it at some Chinese company's doorstep for free...

I just hope I won't die from laughing my a*** off that very day.

But seriously I wouldn't even touch anything with "Google Inside" with a ten feet pole. They're unpredictable, unreliable, cheating and dishonest on their customers. I'm happy to use their search engine and mapping products for free. But that's about it - just as non-commital on my side as their general attitude towards their customers is.

"Be the Devil!" would be a much more appropriate corporate slogan for them.

I never liked the desktop version anyway, so I am not sorry to see it go. It wasn't exactly harmonious to use going from mobile version to desktop. I like using snapseed when I feel a little jaded from shooting monochrome.

I still feel a little irked that Nik sold itself to the Devil. I suppose I have to refer to it now as Old Nik.

I was hoping Nik would change Google more than Google would change Nik.

From DP Review: In a blog post, the company has announced, as a part of its 'spring cleaning' it has decided to shut down Snapseed and Google Reader, among other products.

The blog entry says they are shutting down the DESKTOP version of Snapseed, but not the mobile. The above line gives the impression that Google is killing Snapseed completely. Also, I use Nik software, and killing the desktop version of Snapseed could be good for Nik, as Google wants us to use Nik software. (Although personally I don't want every wannabe pro using Nik).

I wondered what effect Google's takeover would have, and now I know.

Snapseed Desktop is a workflow item for me, so the news is a shame, but so long as it works, it works...

Yup - evil Google... Since they've acquired Nik Software they've made the mobile Snapseed available to a much wider audience for free!!! and discontinued a desktop app that was inferior to to it's competitors and didn't have much usage...

Well, no more google search engine for me, it has sucked HARD for the last 4-5 years anyway, also google you just pushed me away from the android market as well, it is bad enough that android runs as well as windows vista did at the start, but i get junk spam text messages every now and then which does NOT happen on ios NOR did it happen on my old non "smartphone". Your censorship in china, your horribly designed and half functioning android, your destroying companies, and your business ethics overall have finally pushed me away, now i have got a collection of android devices im gona have to sell. You are simply NOT trustworthy as a company AT ALL!

I bought the desktop app.

I do not at all care for Google. Simply cannot stand them.

Google is to good companies what cancer is to human body!

There will be riots if Google kills the Nik plugins.

And do some still think that the rest of the Nik programs for desktop are going to stay around? That would be a triumph of hope over experience.

I use the Android app almost everyday.

Never knew they had a desktop version.

If I did. I would have bought it just for the 'Ambiance' adjustment which works great on the Android app.

Antitrust laws do not apply to Google.

Horrible. I can't get excited about anything Google does anymore. The moment you trust them and invest any amount of time in getting comfortable with something it's gone.

I was a little upset when they discontinues igoogle.com ...it brought everything together into the best homepage we had ever seen.

Google used to be a one stop shop for a diversity of tidbits - tools here and there - that made it compelling to use google.

But as google sheds parts and components because of money problems and internal cost-cutting, it is becoming less and less attractive.

The whole was worth far more than the sum of it's parts... and now that they are breaking everything off, the ship is sinking for me.

Time to jump ship - Google has rendered itself useless to me.

Such a shame. I enjoy using Snapseed. Its a fun and effective programme. I guess we all knew this would happen once Google got its claws into Snapseed. Another great programme bites the dust.

Lovely, I bought this program for $20 and now there won't be any updates. Thanks, Google!

I like Snapseed for desktop. For P/S images it's fast, easy and gives great results. Bummer news! There are days I don't feel like going through Photoshop, for those occasions Snapseed is terrific.

Well that's a shame. I use it for fun stuff when I am not in the mood for LR.

Lets hope they include the good stuff from Snapseed into Picassa

Snapseed came out early as one of the most powerful and versatile image editing apps on mobile devices. On desktops, however, there are already popular programs that offer far more functionality at not much higher price. Therefore, I think that sales of the desktop versions were lackluster. Google is trying to push folks into using G+, where it already includes some of the same type of image editing that Snapseed offers.

They just bought it for the mobile versions, they rest they didn't care.

Why did google have both snapseed and picassa in the first place? I understand they have some different features, but why not just integrate them?
