Cinetics introduces CineVise camera mount with vise grips

Video accessories maker Cinetics has announced the CineVise camera mount. Similar to its Cine System,it is built around Joby's popular Gorillapod Focus flexible tripod. The CineVise includes clamps around its feet, allowing you to firmly mount a DSLR or small video camera to any surface. It can be purchased from the Cinetics store as a complete system, including the GorillaPod Focus and Ballhead X for $295. You can also purchase just the CineVise grips for $165.

Last week, we posted a review of the company's Cine System which is a similar low-cost kit, but on wheels instead of clamps, enabling videographers to achieve smooth panning and zoom shots as well as window and vehicle mounted footage.

I have never found camera platforms like this (segmented , articulated legs) to be sufficiently rigid for serious photographic work. You could purchase a manfrotto magic arm and a very sturdy clamp for less .

what about the folk who like to use cameras without 5 axis IS { which is every other camera on the market} joking aside tripod type devices are always going to give maximum image quality as you can use any ISO /aperture combo you fancy . Even the best IS systems give a limited real life usefulness range

No cameras stabilization system is a replacement for a sturdy tripod or one of these gorilla pod type products. Once you start shooting at night or low-light with small apertures a proper tripod is absolutely essential.

Seems like rather a lot for what it is, but it does look handy. Maybe I'll just attach, Velcro loops to the foot of a spare Gorillapod. That should be useful, too, though tougher o get a rigid mount than this. I do love Gorillapods.

Well, no one is forcing you to buy all (or any) of those grips. They're just offering options.

Gorillapod can be twisted and curled to wrap around and grip onto tree branches, why do you need to add grips to it?

There used to be small screw attachment devices that were very handy. You could screw it into a tree and then attach the camera very securely almost anywhere in the forest without a tripod. I think they disappeared because of the perceived damage to 'nature'. Would be nice to have three small screws for this system as well. Seems like a great system idea.
