Samsung announces Wi-Fi-only version of Galaxy Camera

Samsung has announced a Wi-Fi-only version of its Galaxy Camera. It shares the same feature-set as the 3G and 4G versions announced last August, including a 21x, 23-481mmm equivalent zoom lens on the front with a 4.8" touchscreen on the back. It runs Android 4.1 (known as Jelly Bean), the latest version of the operating system. There is currently no information on price or availability.

I say wait for Galaxy S IV camera instead of this consider the IV phone is going to be out in a month. This is Samsung so you are not going to have support for item older than 6 months so might as well get the newer one.

I saw this thing last week. This camera is BIG, a lot bigger than a compact. I rather bring my DSLR over this. The good things about Samsung Galaxy Camera are connectivity, Android OS and gigantic screen.

This is a clever move by Samsung. Thank you.
Pair this baby with a portable hot spot and you are connected anywhere when you need to contract free.
Would have been great to have also WiMax.
This is what Apple needs to do with the iPod Touch.

I agree, much clearer. Why are sensor sizes so often given in inches when film size is in mm anyway?

the term "sensor size" refers to two things - the image circle diameter that the sensor is designed for - this is a bit larger than the sensor, is a legacy measurement, and thus expressed in the same units as it was back in the day... but you also get it's actual (true) size (dimensions), and this is expressed in modern units, mm.
I feel that this is good, because you can distinguish which it is simply based on the unites used: if you see a dimension in inches, you know that it's not it's real size, and if you see a mm X mm you know it is the sensor's actual dimensions. The former allows you to place sensors into a same category, even if the dimensions may vary slightly.

They took out the 3g/4g, but left in the GPS? Sweet!

Now if only Apple had done that with the iPod Touch I would have already bought one.

But because the Samsung has a better sensor & lens -and- GPS without 3g/4g - I'm going to take a very close look at this.

@timbits... if your cell phone has a camera on it... you already talk into your camera regularly :)

I still think the marriage of the cell phone and camera hasn't been fully fleshed out. This thing along with a conventional cell phone is an absolute no brainer. ESPECIALLY with a full size SD card instead of the dumb microSD crap. Add the capability for an expandable battery pack, I would buy the whole thing TODAY.
