Apple Raw Compatibility Update v4.04 adds nine more cameras

Apple has added Raw support to its OS-X operating system for nine additional cameras, including Nikon's D5200, Pentax K-5 II/IIs and Sony's DSC-RX1. Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update v4.04 also brings Leica X2, D-Lux 6 and V-Lux 4 support to Aperture and iPhoto. The update requires Aperture v3.4 or later and iPhoto version 9.4 or later. This update adds RAW image compatibility for the following cameras to Aperture 3 and iPhoto '11:

Have been using Aperture form version 1 to 3, but going to switch because I'm also a Fuji X-Pro1 user.

The X Pro 1 has been out over a year. Aperture simply will not support this camera, PERIOD.

NO FUJI X-PRO 1 or X-E1 !

I am really disappointed. Not to speak about the neverending wait for Aperture 4 looking at all the cool features of the "others" (lenscorrection anyone?). There has been a broad discussion about it on the net, even the fujiguys on twitter said, Apple has all the Info from Fuji needed - but still no support for X-Trans.

I like Aperture, used it for years, but I give up if they just don´t support the most interesting cameras since years...

Thank god that Capture One now has a good support, Silkypix has it, PhotoRAW, RPP and even LR4 (but not perfect, with the next update I guess).

Apple, here is my ULTIMATUM:

Aperture 4 with full X-Trans support till the end of march, or I will give up on Aperture. There you have it. Period.

This is Apple "Abandonware."

The latest version of Lightroom (4.3) and Lightroom's latest update (7.3) works in earlier versions of OSX, and adds RAW support to Lightroom for cameras not supported in Aperture by virtue of Apple's arbitrarily locking these updates the later release of OSX. One of these is Canon's EOS 6D.

Just beware when you buy software from Apple. Taking advantage of a simple application upgrade may require you to change your entire OS.

...and this from a fellow who really likes Aperture, and has bought V1, V2 and V3. :(

Yeah, that $20 to have the latest version of OS X is a killer.

Apple pushes their users to the latest OS versions. It costs a mere 15€ and they don't have an XP situation. IMO that's a good thing. Mac users are generally happy to upgrade.

JakeB, autoy - it's not the $20 - it's the fact that the last OSX upgrade broke every script I had, made some apps not work, introduced severe bugs in the graphics pipeline for multiple monitors, and that so far at least, OSX beyond 10.6 doesn't offer anything I'm looking for in an OS, particularly with regard to the ongoing "IOS-ification" of the thing. If you want to upgrade, that's great -- but not everyone wants to, and believe it or not, we might have a reason or two after years of dealing with Apple, being an Apple developer, and having a huge investment in application software. Apple's not perfect. Let's not get into pretending they are.

So upgrade a test workstation and see what happens. 10.8.x is among the best Mac OS releases I've seen myself, and I've been around since 7.x. It's solid, it's fast, seems pretty robust and secure to date. Obviously it depends on what you run, but there's very little reason not to go to the latest release. Fear of the past is not really one of them, just test and mitigate going forward, no?
