Canon has refreshed its lineup of compact cameras with the launches of the Elph 130 IS and the PowerShots A3500 IS, A2600 and A1400. The Elph 130 IS (called the IXUS 140 in Europe), features an 8X, 28-244mm equivalent zoom in front of a 16MP CCD sensor. Although it features Wi-Fi, it does not promise the PowerShot N's one-touch convenience and uses a previous-generation Digic 4 processor. The A3500 IS is also Wi-Fi capable but features a 5x, 28-140mm equivalent, stabilized lens and the same 16MP sensor. The less expensive A2600 loses the A3500 IS's stabilization and Wi-Fi, while the AA-battery-powered A1400 gains an optical viewfinder.

London, UK, 7 January 2013– Canon today adds four new stylish and easy-to-use models to its compact camera range – the new IXUS 140 launches alongside the PowerShot A3500 IS, PowerShot A2600 and PowerShot A1400. Designed to make it simple to capture stills and HD movies, each new model offers its own unique range of fun and automatic features, while the new IXUS 140 merges easy operation with outstanding style.
All new models are powered by Canon imaging technologies that offer outstanding quality. Canon's DIGIC 4 processor technology combines with high resolution 16.0 Megapixel sensors to deliver detailed and colour rich images in an instant, ensuring that every moment is captured as you remember it.
28mm wide-angle genuine Canon lenses allow users to capture more of a scene, providing a perfect option for family shots, birthday parties, or holiday landscapes. The new PowerShot models offer a 5x optical zoom, while the new IXUS 140's powerful 8x optical zoom gets even closer to the subject. Canon's ZoomPlus technology also digitally extends each zoom's reach to up to double that of the optical zoom, with high quality results – perfect for getting closer to subjects during a city break or at a family party.
The IXUS 140 and PowerShot A3500 IS include Canon's optical Image Stabilizer technology featuring Intelligent IS, which detects the style of camera shake and automatically selects the most suitable camera settings from six different modes to combat it. Digital IS mode, featured on the PowerShot A2600 and PowerShot A1400, automatically detects any camera or subject motion, and when required adjusts the camera's ISO, shutter speed, or even shoots multiple images, to capture crisp and clear images.
The new IXUS 140 and the PowerShot A3500 IS are part of Canon's expanded range of Wi-Fi enabled cameras, ideal for anyone who can't wait to share their images. Using Canon's free CameraWindow application, users can wirelessly connect and transfer images or movies to both iOS and Android™ smartphones or tablets for enjoying on the move, or upload directly to social networks such as Facebook® . Additionally, Wi-Fi connectivity1 , combined with CANON iMAGE GATEWAY,offers the freedom to share or backup images directly from the camera to the cloud. Offering 10 GB of personal storage capacity, CANON iMAGE GATEWAY is an online facility for storing and sharing photos and video. Users can also automatically transfer their shots to a computer, as well as wirelessly print images2 from the camera on compatible printers including Canon SELPHY and PIXMA models, so photos can be printed and displayed almost immediately after capture.
Holiday memories and photo locations can also be recorded and tagged on the IXUS 140 and PowerShot A3500 IS using the GPS via mobile function. Using the Canon CameraWindow app, users can wirelessly sync the camera to their smartphone's GPS. At the end of each day, Wi-Fi can be activated to pair the captured images on the camera with the location data recorded from the smartphone.
Packed with fun and easy-to-use modes, all the new models make it super-easy to capture memories or unleash creativity. As well as stunning quality stills, the cameras can instantly switch to capturing HD movies in 720p quality – perfect for enjoying on larger screen HD devices – with a press of the dedicated Movie Record Button. In addition, users can enjoy point-and-shoot simplicity with Smart Auto, or add a unique twist to shots with Creative Filters.
The IXUS 140 is the ideal camera for style-conscious users looking for the perfect pocketable camera to capture their adventures. Its powerful technologies are packed into a super-slim and sleek body, available ina choice of four impactful colours – Grey, Silver, Red and Pink. A large 7.5 cm (3.0'') PureColor II G LCD screen also provides the perfect way to frame and review shots on nights out and at parties.
The new collection of PowerShot A-series cameras offers the perfect model for every budget. Ideal for users looking for point-and-shoot simplicity, each model provides ease of use and stylish designs. The PowerShot A3500 IS and PowerShot A2600 boast eye-catching aluminium front finishes available in a choice of four vibrant colours3. The PowerShot A3500 IS and PowerShot A2600 feature a bright 7.5 cm (3.0'') LCD display, while the PowerShot A1400 features a 6.7 cm (2.7'') screen, making it easy to review images and view on-screen hints and tips. The PowerShot A1400 also features an optical viewfinder, ideal for users who prefer a more traditional shooting experience.
All new models feature a new Eco mode, which is designed to conserve battery life. Eco mode automatically shuts off some of the camera's features, including the LCD display when in standby– allowing users to keep shooting for longer.
