Just Posted: Our in-depth review of the Fujifilm X10. It's been a long time coming, but we recently got our hands on a modified X10, which incorporates the sensor fix for the much-publicised 'white orbs' blooming issue. Since it is not more pocketable than a Canon G1X; since G1X delivers much better image quality; and since there is only $100 difference in price, I'm not sure what the case is for buying the X10?

In my opinion the X10 is a nicer camera to use. It focusses quicker (and better - I found myself selecting 'macro' AF mode constantly with the G1X just to shoot portraits) and generally handles a little more smoothly, an impression aided by its smaller size.

I find the X10 a fun camera to use, but the G1 X a better camera to look at my final images from. (Unless I'm doing macros) But then, it's about priorities.

I guess it's natural that people compare the X10 and G1X. I thought about the X10 but the G1X was cheaper and produces better images. Actually, the X10 more truly competes with the XZ1 and G12, etc. The G1X is really competing with n4/3 cameras or, at a stretch, non-zoom cameras like the X100.

I'm just chiming in here to point out that I find the G1X focus is quick and very decisive. I never lose a shot from slow focus or mis-focus. The close-focus thing can be a drag but I just assigned "macro" and "35mm" to the C1 dial position and it's quick to change.

X10 is gorgeous though!

Nonsense Barney.....Fujifilm could easily provide support to Adobe to get RAW converting up to speed. It is not Adobe's fault, it is FUJIFILM's.

I have zero issues with raw, which is all I shoot with the X10. Lightroom 4 and ACR work perfectly, and I've never seen anything from the images like the raws in the Comparison tool.

The X10 is an excellent "photographers" camera, with everything laid out with hard dials - EV comp, ISO via Fn, self-timer button for tripod work, etc. But I was genuinely shocked to read the bit about raw and ACR as I've not had one issue. high ISO ability is by far the best of any P&S I've ever used. And the raws look beautiful.

@rattymouse - there are two things here. Firstly, Fujifilm need to communicate with Adobe and share IP (not something you can always assume a large manufacturer will be able/willing to do).

Secondly, it needs to be worth Adobe's while to spend time (a lot of time) optimizing their product to work with the X10's Raw files (not something you can always assume that Adobe *will be able* to do).

Given Fuji don't actually compete with Adobe/Apple's Aperture (and they must be aware of market share reality) they really need to wake up and realise that lack of 3rd party support costs sales.

If Fuji actually give the relevant info to Adobe, I'm pretty sure we'll get a decent solution. (The X10 is not the only EXR camera that shoots RAW.)

Many years from now, people will still call up this web page to check on what DPR had to say about this camera.

It will still be quite relevant. It will help people make purchasing decision now and in the future.

It's never late, but always timely.

Many years from now people will be planning to buy a flawed 6 megapixel camera? I wish my old camera gear had that much resale value.

Consider how someone can check the model's performance when this camera is on ebay for 50 €/$ years from now. This review will be very helpful then.

Also every camera is a bunch of compromises and therefore flawed. Those photographers who care more about the image than the camera will very rarely miss a higher pixel count.

"Fujifilm will replace any units which have the problem, we've received no definitive answer from Fujifilm on how consumers can determine whether that X10 sitting on a camera store shelf or purchased online has the original or updated sensor..." Blah blah blah...
Really?! I have NOT heard any words from Fuji at all on this issue.
This is the only camera I ever ordered and canceled prior to its delivery.

I really like this Fuji, and it WILL still win me over the new Sony RX100. But I will not order it until Fuji apologizes and recall all existing 'white-orbs' X10s.

Let's wait and see...

That's not what they are saying in my part of Asia. They are saying you have until September to get it fixed, which I think appalling given that it is THEIR error.

So what happens when you buy a camera in October and it comes from old stock and has the orb issue? Will you just be SOL?

If you want one, buy the camera in a shop after checking it out there. Most camera shops are a pretty good environment to test for orbs - lots of bright lights and reflective surfaces.

Well, I bought mine for 485 euros, a big difference to more than 600 euros annouced on the review. And I like it a lot!!
