Happy Holidays from dpreview

By dpreview staff on Dec 25, 2012 at 08:03 GMT

The entire team at dpreview would like to wish all our readers Happy Holidays, Season's Greetings, Merry Christmas or whatever you say in your part of the world. As we celebrate our 14th anniversary we're thrilled what we've achieved in 2012 and are looking forward to another exciting year in 2013, with even more new features in the pipeline, even more of the high quality content that made this site what it is today, and some exciting new additions to the team. Whatever you're doing today, enjoy yourselves and thank you for being a part of dpreview.com!

Maybe it was the delays wrought by the devastating earthquake in Japan and flooding in Thailand, maybe it was because it's a Photokina year, maybe it's just that product cycles are getting more and more stretched. But whatever the reason, the result was that 2012 was a bumper year for new products in the enthusiast photography world. I can't remember a year where we saw quite so many products that we could genuinely get excited about, and get excited about being able to tell you about. And all this despite the photographic industry continuing to struggle with the challenges of a declining market, poor economy and increasing pressure from the smart phone on the point and shoot sector.

Here at dpreview.com we've had an incredibly busy year, trying to keep up with the deluge of exciting product to cover, launching a completely new site, relaunching lens reviews and completely overhauling the forums software. And of course a lot more work under the hood and behind the scenes - work that you may never see, but that will ensure that dpreview keeps going for another 14 years, and more.

As a result of some of the initiatives launched this year (and some coming next year) we've been able to add to our editorial team for the first time since 2010, and are incredibly excited to have Jeff Keller (founder of dcresource.com) joining our reviews team in the new year (more on that soon). We will continue to invest in high quality content for as long as we can afford to, and I am 100% confident the new recruits will allow our over-worked (and often under-appreciated) editorial team to make dpreview.com an even more indispensable resource for the photographer in 2013.

I was going to write a lot more but it's 10pm on Christmas Eve and I have gifts to wrap. So, until we return to normal operations on Jan 2nd (just in time to haul our collective asses to CES in Vegas) let me wish you a peaceful, happy holidays.

Again, merry Christmas from us all. Without you, none of this would be possible.
Simon

To all the staff at DPR. Thank you for all your hard work, the many reviews and for providing this great website/service for everyone with a passion for photography. Merry Christmas, season's greetings, happy Hanukkah etc to you too. You're never going to please everyone and it's sad to see that even something as simple as your holiday greetings has to come under fire. But keep up the good work and know that there are many who do appreciate everything you do, even though you can't be all things to all people.

Quite so, we shouldn't judge on other's approaches whatever it may concern. That kind of criticism is simply inadequate in my view. We should keep in mind that Simon's (and DPR's) intension was to send a gladsome message to us. And moreover, this great site is about photography - a spare/fulltime job we all like.

Thanks to your hard work at DP Review... You are one of my first ports of call when I go online. Perhaps a New Years resolution for some is to appreciate their efforts and how lucky we are with digital cams, rather than focus (excuse the pun) on minute differences in specifications that really don't matter...

Here in Germany they often say "Frohe Weihnacht und einen guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr!" [what means literally: ... and a good 'gliding' into the new year :) or simply: Happy New Year!]. Thanks for your greatings - which I like to respond to all of your staff doing the service for dpreview! Professionalism, diversity and a very good conception turn dpreview.com into the most reliable photo site for me. Keep it up!

Thank you, Simon. !! Thank you for bringing us all the good details on the world of photo gear that we are so into. lol...But today, lets also be thankful for the best gift of all, that of our Creator coming down to earth to make it possible for us to be reunited in peace with the One who loves us more than we can know. Count me as one who accepts that gift with gratitude. Blessings, and Merry Christmas to all the staff at DPR.

Free to all are my best wishes for this holiday season; including Christmas, Chanukha, Winter Solstice, but not exclusive of any other titled fest normally associated with these calendar dates (or any other calendars in use by other societies).

May all wishees enjoy a politically correct, environmentally conscious, gender neutral, socially responsible, religiously tolerant, non-substance abusive, racially and ethnically unbiased, low-stress, low-fat, trans-fat free, celebration of this holiday season in accordance with those traditions of the religious persuasion and secular practices of your choice, non exclusive of those who adhere to non-religious beliefs.

All wishes are offered to all wishees regardless of race, gender, religious faith, physical abilities, age, sexual orientation or ethnic origins, and with all due respect to those of all cultures whose contributions to dpreview built this great web community.
