Photokina 2012: Panasonic has promised two new lenses for its Lumix G Micro Four Thirds system, a fast 42.5mm F1.2 'portrait' lens and a 150mm F2.8 telephoto. Both lenses will include optical image stabilization, but there are no further details at present. Both are slated for release in 2013-2014.

Panasonic showed this slide at its Photokina 2012 press conference, promising 42.5mm F1.2 and 150mm F2.8 lenses, both with optical image stabilization.

Optical image stabilization is dandy but I haven't really missed it on the 20mm/F1.7. If the IS omission makes the new lens half size (of better or comparable F1.7 quality incl. flare reject), I'd opt for that. Than again, did anybody say 'sports?'

Oh, give the ring a bit of color. Maybe a touch of "optical" purple.

you don't miss it on the 20 because its wide enough to not need it. @ 150, or even 42.5, you will want it.

Hm...2013-2014? What about now? Because I want to take photographs now, but for that I need existing equipment, not stuff that could be released in 1-2 years.

I remember being blasted for suggesting m4/3 needs lenses like these. All sorts of comments from the deniers about DOF and to go buy a FF camera. Good to see Panasonic ignoring the naysayers and doing what is right.

Now let's see them release a 50-200 f/2.8 and maybe a 300 f/4!

My problem is can I stay in the m4/3 long enough to get one, or do I switch to NEX 6? Like to see if GH3 has lower noise than O-MD and even faster AF mainly for tracking

Geez. It's called "prime" lens, not "single focal length" lens. Stop the propaganda already.

Single focal length lens is the formal name.

Now we just need some teleconverters and the system is virtually complete. :-) (Except perhaps for super telephotos.)

WOW! 45mm F1.2 with IS. I am selling my 45mm F1.8 in anticipation of this new lens. Gonna cost some serious money though.

Probably the 150 f2.8 will be insanely expensive >1000$...

Finally somebody in the m43 camp realises the crop sensor advantage.
This is the first ever tele PRIME, right?!
300mm F5.6 FF equiv DOF gives pleasing bokeh for mid range objects.
Good for the zoo, but still not enticing to birders.
FF 200 F2.8 lenses are relatively cheap, make one for m43, price it under $999, and now we're birding!

Oh yea, now we're talking. Price it at like a legacy 200/2.8, make it slightly slimmer and lighter for the 4/3 sensor, and we're good. Oh, and don't forget the teleconverters to go along with it.

Actually not many 200mm f2.8 are still in production today, they are probably replaced by 70-200 zooms.
But, the Canon 200mm F2.8L II can be bought for $765 brand new.

Keeping with the recent trend, Pana will price this lens not as 150/2.8 with a quarter of image circle (as it should have), but as a 300/2.8 FF sharp corner to corner.

No wonder the new GH3 is big. Those two lenses are huge. Compare the mount and the size of the lens. Not FF huge but way bigger than any m4/3 so far.

I was hoping for something in the 300mm range. Maybe Olympus will show something for next year.

Both lenses are great news. As long as they are weather sealed, they will be hard to resist!
Hope Olympus leapfrogs Panny with a 200/2.8 instead....

Awesome!

Out of interest, why are today's MFT releases getting dropped down the front page on DPR?? I didn't see this, the GH3 announcement or the Oly lens announcement because the 6D preview stayed at the top of the page so I just assumed there was nothing new...

I think the Oly lenses actually started on Page 2 :/

DPR often keeps "headline" articles higher in the list, in particular previews.

But it is a bit strange to see the latest Panasonic lenses announcements at the bottom of the list, below compact digicams announcements.

Review/preview always have priority over news and will only be pushed down by other review/preview.
