Dpreview product database now mobile

We've made our product database available on the mobile version of the site. The addition of the products section (searchable by product name, browsable by brand and product type), is another step towards making the entire site available on-the-go. Our database currently includes cameras, lenses and printers and is probably the most comprehensive on the web. As before, there are small links at the bottom of every page to swap between the mobile and desktop versions.

great stuff. Of course if you didn't put so much clutter on your site in the first place it would load fine on a mobile in low bandwidth.

but its nice to see an alternative happening :-)

You all realize you can just bookmark "m.dpreview.com" on your mobile devices, right? You don't HAVE to go first to the desktop site, then to the mobile site ...

Yes and no, I got used to go to DPR from RSS feed on mobile phone and this leads me to the main page, not m.dpreview.com

I'd say loudly, PLEASE move that link, which swaps between mobile and normal page version to the TOP OF PAGE from the very bottom. Imagine, how difficult is to find them on mobile device now, if you want to swap to more readable version, not speaking about the fact you have to wait, until the whole page loads, just to leave it. Thanks a lot, well done, otherwise

Great that you're working on the mobile access to the site. I still come across a lot of broken links, which I guess will just take some time to fix.

I like the layout of the the database articles. The sliding product images are nice.

Well done on the mobile version, but I hope you don't forget to work on the desktop version as well. It's a very heavy website, and I experience a lot of misloaded pages. Often, the image comparator tool in the reviews does not work well.

Maybe it's time for some extra bandwith with all these exciting new camera releases...

Great effort but needs work. It doesn't line out well on my galaxy s. Also when you try to search "type here to search" doesn't go away. I had to delete it first. When the search field is active (blinking cursor), it scrolls the list back to the top whenever you lift your finger(annoying).

How about an ap? while it's available online - something designed for an ap would be great when travelling.

An app would still need a data connection, since it won't contain the entire database. So no real difference between an app and a site. You van just make a shortcut for the database section on your home screen and it will behave just like an app which you never need to update.

Mobile phones are really to small for this sort of thing......but I'm still all for it.

Im hoping that Apples new iPhone 5 when it comes out will be a bigger version than the 4s....then thing will be a bit easier to read.
Keep up the good work DP, your hands on camera reviews are amazing.

it took us 10-15 years to get web pages to look interesting and make them useful and use features our computers offer.

Now we have to find ways to get it all 'dumbed down' for mobile devices again (and create parallel mobile versions) until they become powerful enough to handle good web sites again. History repeats itself. :)

Actually, as a user I prefer to look at lightly designed websites. That does not mean 'dumbed down' at all.

I agree. Apps are just portions of fully functional websites. My "mobile" solution is a full features netbook. I have no problems viewing websites as they were intended to be viewed with it.

I won't pay $30/month to view web data on a 4 inch phone when I can pay $50/month for a mobile hotspot and use a 11.5 inch netbook.

The 'Mobile Site' link doesn't seem to work on Windows Phones? I get redirected to the dpreview.com/device/mobile page and then get dumped out to the normal site. I assume you're not interpreting the Mobile IE browser properly?
