Software maker DSLR Guru is oftering a 50% discount on its ProFX pack of presets and film emulation plugins for Adobe's Lightroom 3 and 4. The ProFX pack includes the company's ToolkitPro series of develop and adjustment presests, along with the XProcessPro cross-process effects and FlimFXPro film simulation profiles. The pack would usually cost £19.99 but will be available for £9.99 until the end of March 2012.

Does anyone know whats up with the DSLR GURU site and when the special offer will be available again. The 31st March and the end of the special is repidly approaching.
I would not buy at the standard price.

Bought it too.
Not happy at all.
Most presets useless, clutter on UI.
Why would anyone need a preset that would increase or decrease (let's say) clarity, contrast, exposure etc, when one can do the same from sliders on the right side of the screen????
for example, if one opens the clarity-- develop process on a notepad or similar editor, it reads:
"... title = "Clarity --",
type = "Develop",
value = {
settings = {
Clarity2012 = -38,
ProcessVersion = "6.7",
},
..."
WOW! impressive!!! I am blown away! all this "preset" does is to set clarity to -38!!!!!

As for the more complex presets, one can find equivalent for free in many lightroom-related forums/blogs/sites.

This is not a low cost product, this is a CHEAP product that might be useful to a newbie that doesn't have any presets and doesn't know where to start from.

My suggestion, spend your money somewhere else or give it to charity.

I have to agree...they offer some interesting effects....I'll have to experiment with it a bit more. However for $16 there are quite a number of presets and adjustments that they provide.

If you're referring to me, I'm not worrying about anything, but I'd just as soon not give someone my money for a shoddy product. I doubt you walk into a restaurant and say, "I'll take the £10 meal, whatever that is." :)

I'm happy to read that's not the case for this product, so I may get the package.

No offence meant 453C ;) Just being humorous. ;) Actually, I'd take the £5 meal if it was on offer, but I'm just a bargain hunter ;) It is a good package for the money, and very handy in aiding your raw workflow. The local adjustment presets are worth the money alone for me - I'm using them constantly. The film presets are just digital assimilations, they don't use specific profiles like the VSCO ones, I guess that's why they are much cheaper, but they are good all the same. I felt it was money well spent. ;) They work only in LR3/LR4 I believe.

you can find good ones for free at Adobe and around the web or make your own for free

I bought the pack, cant try it out till tonight. Comes out to be around $16 US.

Its a zip file with lots of sub folders with presets. No exe files and no DRM of any kind.

One more thing. I found two sub folders; lightroom 3 and lightroom 4.

Given the price, I have to wonder if this is a spectacular deal or a waste of a little bit of money. Does anyone have experience with this software? I also started a thread in The Digital Darkroom for discussion:

no software... configuration files for Lightroom. You need Lightroom to play with these...

Lu64, I know it's for Lightroom 3-4, and I'm fairly sure this is software. I don't think I'll receive a stack of paper "configuration files" in the post. :)

"Software" relates to computer programs as it is usally understood by people. But yes, configuration files can also be understood as software.
