dpreview.com gets mobile

We've just added a mobile version of dpreview, to make it easier to get to our content from your cellular, mobile or generally portable devices. In this first iteration we've made it easy browse reviews, news stories, articles and previews. Forums and commenting support will come in later versions. However, although we think m.dpreview will make it easier to enjoy the site, we've placed small links at the bottom of every page to swap between the mobile and desktop versions.

It's not an App. It's just a mobile version of the site that formats better when you view the site on your mobile browser.

So, on my iPhone it looks like Forums are only on offered with the Desktop Version.

For the forum side of things, an App would be better.

You forgot to add the ability to let us sign in and participate. It's one thing to view the site, it's another to submit feedback. Digital Preview people, I know you recognize the need for the mobile site due to everyone being so mobile. Sure is a big oversight to also overlook everyone's ability to input while mobile as well ;-)

Cool! Now if I could get Verizon to stream my home WiFi at a reasonable speed, instead of at a snail pace, this would be good.

Maybe I need an iPad on ATT, and kick Verizon to the curb. I think CompuServe at 300 baud was faster than verizon FIOS...

Even though this is just a partial implementation and a first step, I believe it's a step in the right direction. I've wished I could read the forums on my iPhone, and am glad that functionality is on the radar. Thanks for adding this!

Thanks. I read reviews with images on my big screen PC but I check the "what's new" list and scan articles for interest daily on my Droid. This is a BIG improvement.

I thought the dpreview mobile app developer job was filled by Amazon? That's what they told me when I asked them at least :-P

I actually wondered why you guys didn't just do the jquery mobile approach in the first place...wasn't sure what a mobile app would have bought you.
I'd 2nd the need to add forums to it...I don't really care about reading reviews etc. on a tiny mobile device...it's ok on a tablet though.

I like it but seem to have a "roller coaster" effect when scrolling. It wants to keep scrolling past the point I wish to stop and I have to back up to that point slowly. It's almost like it thinks there are pages, but if that is the case, the pages are about 1.5 to 2 pages long and it keeps wanting to slide off what I am reading either forward or backward depending where I stopped.

Review's table score on a WP7.5 mobile doesn't load up (see Canon ELPH 510 HS (IXUS 1100 HS)). Can you look at it? WP7.5 is an IE9 mobile browser, it should be fully compatible (desktop version does loads/looks OK).

Loading this page is still about half a MB, which is still pretty mobile unfriendly, given the nature of the content on this page (almost all text). Really, it's no more mobile-friendly than the desktop site is.

I really don't see any sense in a creating an app just to view a web site. There should be an HTML version that usable on low resolution screens, with forum support. There is no need for a stand alone application.

No kudos from me.

You broke the way Android handsets request the desktop version of sites. Please fix this so switching isn't limited only to your desktop hyperlink.

Also, in this day and age it is unfathomable why this forum isn't on Tapatalk.

FWIW, this mobile site is nearly too late. My 4.6" 1280x720 handset does a fantastic job with the full site and so will countless emerging "next gen" handsets.
