Rayqual makes MFT and E adapters with built-in tripod mounts

Japanese adapter maker Rayqual has announced a series of adapters for Micro Four Thirds and Sony E-mount with built-in tripod mounts. The adapters allow the use of long and heavy lenses on mirrorless cameras without the camera having to bear the weight. Adapters are available for Nikon F, M42, Leica R, Olympus OM, Canon FD and Pentax K mounts. Aperture control is not available on the F and K mount versions.

its funny that the promo photos show them mounted to lenses with aperture rings.. to cover the fact that there is no aperture control dial on the adapter. pass

Why the tripod mount? No tripod thread on the MFT cameras!?!

If it's for the long lenses it won't help since you still risk bending the mount, but instead of the camera it's now the adapter you ruin... I guess that's cheaper than ruining the camera though!

Most really long/heavy lenses do come with a tripod collar though.

The tripod mount helps with stabilizing the camera setup on the tripod. Yes, these cameras have 1/4-20 on their body, but even a relatively small 35mm lens makes them tip & bobble forward a bit with its added weight.

if you've ever mounted a heavy collar-less 35mm lens on a small body (like nikon's 28-70), the sagging effect is noticeable.

This thing will be a lifesaver for me. My Nikon 180mm 2.8 is a gloriously clear long lens on a E-P1, but I simply would not think of putting it on a tripod as of right now. The balance is far off center and there is no way that the Pen's lens mount was designed for that much weight leveraged that far forward. A shame, of course, since a 360mm equivalent lens is a rather boutique item if you can only hand-hold it. Ordering a Rayqual adapter right away.

Only affects F and K mount; M42, Leica R, Olympus OM, Canon FD always have aperture rings on the lenses.

Look at the picture... There are no tripod collars! It's simply a tripod thread built into the adaptor, nothing more.

Hey Rayqual - since you seem to be supportive of every other Mirrorless brand, how about a Samsung NX version?

I use a similar adapter (fotodiox) to put my small nikon primes on my nex-5. It's the best combination of small size + quality + price I've found so far.

Manual aperature and manual focus with the focus peaking firmware takes some practice and isn't for everyone, but I've always valued taking my time to deliberately compose and create images.

Anyone know what the little wheel on the Rayquals at the bottom of the page is? It almost looks like a focus pulling aid for video, but google translate doesn't help :P

The little wheel is the tripod mount. It flares out at the bottom for stability.

This is a clever idea. Various people have been trying legacy telephoto lenses on mirrorless cameras, but are concerned that heavy lenses could bring about deformation of the mount if the camera is attached to a tripod. How the answer to the question is- buy another adaptor!

While it's theoretically possible for an adapter to autofocus and have electronic aperture control on newer lenses (especially Canon EF) the fact that there are no adapters that can seems to suggest there's some technical reason why it's not practical.
