Leica posts firmware update for M8 rangefinder

Leica has released a firmware update for its M8 rangefinder camera. Version 2.014 adds support to the recently released Super-Elmar-M 21 mm f/3.4 ASPH. wide-angle lens amongst other improvements. The firmware is available for immediate download from the company's website.

Keep in mind the Leica M8 is a Sept. 2006 camera. You don't see other camera OEM releasing new firmware for cameras dated back to 2006.

Leica is not known for his generosity, but for the ability to create masterpieces.
And a pristine M8 costs much less than a Nikon D700 and Canon 5DMkII

Comparing an M8 to full frame bodies? You might as well be saying "A pristine D3X costs much less than a Red Epic 645".

didn't Leica also show certain 'greatness', compensating the cheated buyers of first generation M8 - lacking an IR filter for the sensor - by offering 2 free screw-on IR-filters
Guess this got to do with a strong sense for tradition and impeckable moral values

The going rate for *used* M8's in "excellent" condition is usually north of $2500 USD. More (or at least equal) than a brand new 5D2 or D700.

... that aren't crippled by spotty reliability as well as IR issues requiring flare- and ghost- inducing filtration. That comment mystifies me also. Calling such a flop a "masterpiece" is only possible by someone who isn't only drunk on the Kool-Aid but has also bought the Leica marketing department hook, line, and sinker.
