Wildlife photographer and dpreview.com contributor Uwe Skrzypczak is again making his book 'Wildlife photography: On Safari with Your DSLR: Equipment, Techniques, Workflow' available as a free download. As a goodwill gesture, following the difficulty many people experienced in downloading the book last week, Skrzypczak and his publisher Rockynook will be making the English language version of the book available again from Saturday December 17th for a 24 hour period, this time on dpreview's servers. The German-language version is also available from Skrzypczak's website. Please note - this download is only authorized from these links and for a 24 hour period - sharing or downloading the book from other sources contravenes Skrzypczak's copyright and is likely to deter other publishers offering downloads in future.

Availability - December 17th 2011

The download link will not work outside the following times:

From: 15:01

Well, it's past 18:01 and I still see only zero bytes in both Safari and Firefox on the Mac. Same thing last week. Seems like a nice idea but it doesn't really seem to work.

I downloaded the e-book and I must say it looks fantastic. I'm looking forward to spending many evenings reading it.

Thank You

p.s. for people who have trouble with the download link I suggest reloading the web page or clearing your web browser cache and re-navigating to this web page. The downloaded zip file is under 14mb and comes from a very fast host.

5:04PM here in the Central Time Zone US and still can't download. I guess this in one of those "you get what you pay for" deals.

I know you probably have to append the copyright message for appearance's sake, but it seems a bit far-fetched that people will cease distributing copies the moment the time period expires.

What he should have done is given away the first half of the book for free, with the second half available for purchase separately, or indeed he could have used this as a way of publicising volume II (assuming he isn't already). Or - given that the book probably has a tonne of lovely sample pictures - he could distribute a low-res copy for free, and offer an A3, 300dpi version as a paid download. Etc.

That's a rather disappointing attitude. Any e-book could be easily pirated but you have to trust people not to. Given Uwe's kind gesture of making the book available for free for a period, you'd have to hope that most people are decent enough to not then abuse that by illegally distributing it.

I agree with Richard. Uwe's actions demonstrate faith in humanity. His faith translates into the good behavior of his readers. I thank him, his publisher, and whoever is providing the bandwidth necessary to host the file.

Same problem as Glenn Runyan. Windows Vista does not recognize and the file shows a size of 0 bites in the download folder. Is this a PDF, video or what?

I've corrected the mistake on the Eastern timezone.

If you're in the US, it's available from the afternoon/evening of Saturday, through to the same time on Sunday.

If you're in Europe, it's essentially available all day Sunday.

If you're in Australia, it'll be available from around lunchtime on Sunday (depending on where you are in the country)

If I may, in these kinds of events, a small 1 line javascript or php telling us when it will be available in relative time would help. I am not saying removing the UTC/CET/Pacific/Eastern time, but adding something that says "Download will be available in XX hours, YY minutes"...
For example, now, it would say "Download available in 30 min", if I am right...
Or add a UTC clock, or whatever...
Thanks for those of us that are not in the usual timezones (I must say that adding the UTC is already great compared to other sites which just state US/Europe times).

I guess I am out of luck. Been trying over a dozen times to get it but the download page heat downloading a zero length file. I was going at it from a link in an article in Zite. Something wasn't working.
