Wildlife Photography e-book: available again on Saturday Dec 17th

Wildlife photographer and dpreview.com contributor Uwe Skrzypczak is again making his book 'Wildlife photography: On Safari with Your DSLR: Equipment, Techniques, Workflow' available as a free download. As a goodwill gesture, following the difficulty many people experienced in downloading the book last week, Skrzypczak and his publisher Rockynook will be making the English language version of the book available again from Saturday December 17th for a 24 hour period, this time on dpreview's servers. The German-language version is also available from Skrzypczak's website. Please note - this download is only authorized from these links and for a 24 hour period - sharing or downloading the book from other sources contravenes Skrzypczak's copyright and is likely to deter other publishers offering downloads in future.

thanks for nothing dpreveiw. i got news letter advise of this download on christmas day, 8 days after. not happy.

i know what someone is going to say, "should be checking website regularly". well not everyone spends every waking hour in front of a screen. that is why i get news letters via e-mail that i can access on phone.

still no decent lens reveiws this year either.

Downloaded it on my computer during the short window it was available, then loaded it to dropbox so I could move it to my tablet for reading there. Went to open it just now and dropbox tells me it was taken down at the request of Uwe Skrzypczak per DMCA takedown law.

Nice.

No wonder ebooks are worthless.

How about DPReview posting this on FRIDAY, so folks have a realistic opportunity to enjoy the book. Weekends are snowed so I, along with many, missed BOTH windows. For my part, I've been in hospital with my son who broke his neck mountain-biking - kind of a legit "miss"...

Any chance of another window happening with a Friday MORNING heads-up?

Thanks for your message and sorry for you and the other people they could not get my book PDF.

From the technical side, there was no "timeout" in our 24 hour action for downloading the free PDF this weekend.

We have tasted both links, the english version at dpreview, the german version on my own website each hour. Both links had worked fine, usually in some seconds download time, in higher frequented times in a few minutes.
So, there was enough server space that everybody could get the PDF.

I find this very manipulating and frustrating, if you are going to share it share it for few days so people don't have to be hostage of the time and network speed.
I don't understand what kind of marketing game is this. If you want people to pay it, just say it and direct accordingly and users will be happy to pay and download properly.

What a shame! Uwe offers the product of his hard work for free and you complain as if you were entitled to anything!

If anyone is entitled to be frustrated, it is bound to be Uwe!

One the first day, I also experienced difficulties and contacted Uwe. He was very kind to help me get a copy within minutes. I noted down the day for downloading the german version (because of my kids) and had not problems at all this time.

The book was offered on two separate weekends. It is the season of giving, Uwe did that, and it was very nice of him to offer his book. The fact that for whatever reason you could not download it is a shame, but get over it. I don’t think this is a marketing game, sometimes people just try to be nice, and that is what Uwe has done. I understand your frustration, but how can you expect Uwe to continue to give away his work! I ask you, should Uwe give it away for 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, or just till you have it?
