Flickr offers Android app including image processing

Photo sharing site Flickr has launched an Android app for uploading, browsing and processing images. The processing - which allows the application of ten filters and effects - is one of a number of features not included in the equivalent iOS app. These features put it squarely into competition with the popular, iOS-only 'Instagram' processing and sharing service. Flickr says an iOS version will follow 'in the coming months.'

Starting a Photo Session is as easy as sending a link to a friend or family member, who can then access the photos via their icomputer, iPhone or iPad from any location. It's quite a large app, and won't install to SD card, so a problem if you have limited space on your phone memory.

The built-in camera app is flawed on my EVO. It does not allow me to focus on anything except the center of the frame. The 10 filters (tints) are limiting as well.

Instagram is better all around... I can't wait for the android app.

Check out pixlr-o-matic, it works very well using the phones camera to take photos and it has more film, texture and frame effects. It is also free as well.

Unfortunately, it's not coming first to Android, iOS had its official flickr app years ago, and 6 months after the Windows Mobile 7 app. Flickr is a great service (I have a "pro" account), but they're really too slow to develop new features :
- RAW support (at least for backup)
- Better new layout and customisation
