Photokina 2010: Sigma has unveiled the 120-300mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM, a revised version of its fast telezoom featuring optical image stabilization and weather-resistant construction. The lens also offers ultrasonic-type HSM autofocus with full-time manual override, and employs both 'F' Low Dispersion and Super Low Dispersion glass to minimize chromatic aberrations. It employs a 9-bladed rounded diaphragm for attractive bokeh, and is fully compatible with Sigma's 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters while maintaining autofocus.

Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM

Large aperture telephoto zoom OS and weather resistant construction

  • Large aperture telephoto zoom lens
  • Sigma’s proprietary Optical Stabilisation system
  • Weather resistant sealing connectors
  • Equipped with HSM ensuring quiet and high speed AF
  • Rounded 9 blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the new Sigma APO 120-300mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM, which offers improved optical performance. This large aperture zoom lens features Sigma’s OS (Optical Stabilizer) function and weather-resistant design throughout for use in harsh conditions.

One SLD and Two FLD glass elements are used for maximum correction of chromatic aberrations. The Super Multi-Layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting and the lens design incorporates an inner focusing and inner zooming system to ensure sharp images throughout the entire zoom range.

Improved optical performances provides excellent correction of sagittal coma flare and ensures ultra-high resolution, comparable to a fixed focal length lens.

The OS function offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower than would otherwise be possible and enables hand held tele-photography.

Incorporation of HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures quiet and high speed AF, while allowing full-time manual focus override. The rounded 9 blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of the image.

The addition of the optional APO 1.4x EX DG and 2x EX DG Tele Converters produces an ultra telephoto zoom lens with AF.

Hi. My views on the 120 300 2.8 EX DG OS. Having used many telephoto zoom and fixed ff lenses of the last 35 years including the 100 400 stabilized version, Sigma 50 500 and Sigma 150 500. This Sigma 120 300 is the very best. It is beautifully constructed ( apart from the lens cap ) and produces superb results at all focal lengths and apertures. There is absolutely no need to stop down or zoom back 20 mm or so.

This lens is an absolute gem. It is streets ahead of any other Sigma that I have owned or borrowed and in my view out performs the legendary Canon 100 400.

Here comes the biggest shock for me. There are many reviews on the Sigma 1.4 Extender and they are all very good - one stop down to F4 and no trade off at all in picture quality. Now try the 2 x Extender.......Wow what a surprise. Superb picture quality all the way. You just need to increase the saturation and contrast just by a small amount in your processing. Fantastic 20 x16 prints.

Five Stars ..
