Sony recalls Cyber-Shot DSC-T5
Aug 3, 2007 at 10:23:28 GMT
Sony has issued a recall on its Cyber-Shot DSC-T5 digital camera after identifying a manufacturing fault. Affecting cameras worldwide with serial numbers between 3500001 and 3574100, the fault relates to the metal skin covering the base of the camera. Due to an 'irregularity' in the adhesive bonding it to the substructure of the camera this is at risk of peeling away and presenting a sharp edge which may cut or scratch the skin of the user. Sony will fix any affected cameras free of charge, link after the jump.
Users outside the US should visit their local Sony site for details on how to claim the free service

Symptom and Cause
DSC-T5 Bottom Casing
With certain DSC-T5 cameras, the metal plating may peel away from the camera body and warp outward. Sony identified an irregularity during the initial part production, the adhesive strength of the metal coating on this part. As a result, it became more likely that damage to the bottom casing could cause the metal coating to peel away and warp outward.
This issue affects only DSC-T5 model Cyber-shot digital still cameras with serial numbers between 3500001 and 3574100.
NOTE: The model and serial number can be found on the sticker on the bottom of the camera.
Sony will provide free service to replace the affected part for DSC-T5 cameras in the serial number range listed above. Sony will cover all costs associated with shipping.
If your camera falls within the serial range and you paid for an out of warranty repair for this issue, Sony will reimburse you for the cost of replacing the part. If your out of warranty repair was handled by the Sony Service facility in Laredo, Texas, you should receive a check automatically by September 30, 2007.
If you do not receive a check by September 30, 2007, or if you paid for an out of warranty repair through a third party, you may submit a reimbursement request. Please click here to download a claim form.
